Calvin Fall Sports Athletes Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors / Video
Highlights of Calvin-Hope Men's Soccer Game Now Online

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin’s Matt Vander Roest its MIAA Runner of the Week in men’s cross country
for meets through October 15.

A senior from Ann Arbor (Huron HS), Vander Roest finished third in the Brooks
Invitational at Wis.-Oshkosh with a time of 25:05 over the 8-kilometer course.
His performance helped the Knights finish fourth among 47 teams at the meet,
which was run on the same course where the Division III national championships
will be decided later this fall.

Vander Roest is being honored as Runner of the Week for the second time this
season.

VOLLEYBALL

Calvin outside hitter Erin Vander Plas, a senior from Cadillac (McBain Northern
Michigan Christian HS), pounded 51 kills for a hitting percentage of .419, and
added 12 digs and six blocks as the Knights won all five of their matches for
the week to remain unbeaten at 23-0. She had 12 kills in an MIAA win over
Kalamazoo, then later had 13 kills and a .600 hitting percentage as the Knights
swept nationally-ranked Carthage, Wis., at the Midwest Invitational tournament.
Vander Plas is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her
career.Calvin setter Megan Rietema, a sophomore from Grand Rapids (GR Christian
HS), dished out 204 assists (12.5 per set) as part of an outstanding all-around
performance for the unbeaten Knights as Calvin won all five of its matches. She
added 20 kills, 23 digs, 16 blocks and eight service aces for the week. Rietema
had 44 assists in an MIAA win over Kalamazoo; 46 assists, nine digs and six
kills in a four-set win over Millikin, Ill. and 34 assists, six kills, eight
digs and four aces in a sweep of Illinois Wesleyan at the Midwest Invitational.
She is being honored as Player of the Week for the third time this season and
fifth time in her career.
MEN'S SOCCER

Calvin goalkeeper Michael Dolan, a junior from Casco (Marine City HS), did not
allow a goal in more than 150 minutes of play in leading the Knights to two
victories that kept them in sole possession of first place in the MIAA.

He made two saves in 61 minutes of action in a 4-1 victory over Adrian, then
made four saves, including one where he dove to punch away a scoring threat in
the final minute, in a 1-0 win over Hope.

Dolan is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
