Calvin took on the Alma Scots Friday at Calvin’s Van Noord Arena. The Knights
rolled over the Scots defeating Alma in straight sets by scores of 25-14,
25-17, 25-13.
The Scots had the momentum briefly at the beginning of the match. Alma won
the first five points of the match. After that, it was all Calvin. Senior
Rebecca Kamp(Chicago Christian HS) led the Knights with 14 kills and hit a .632
clip. Senior Erin Vander Plas (Northern Michigan Christian HS) and junior
Lizzie Kamp (Chicago Christian HS) added eight kills apiece. Sophomore Megan
Rietema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) led Calvin in assists and blocks dishing
out 31 assists while recording five block assists. Senior Kelly Peterson
(Anoka HS) led Calvin with 11 digs. The Scots, despite hitting a .012 clip as
a team, were led by Kelly Maise with eight kills.
The story of the match was serving and receiving serve.
“I thought we served really well. We received serve the best we have all year
long. When you are able to pass well, it sets up your offense. I thought we
did that tonight.” Head Coach Amber Warners reflected.
Junior Jen Pluymert (Grand Rapids Christian HS) served a career high five aces
in the match. Calvin as a team had nine service aces.
Calvin moves to 13-0 (5-0 MIAA) on the year. The Knights return to action when
they travel to Trine University to face the Thunder tomorrow at 1 pm.
