Gabrielse and Boerner Receive Capital One Academic All-District Honors in Women's Track and Field
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
Two members of the Calvin women's track and field program have received Capital One Academic All-District honors. Junior Jordan Gabrielse has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV first team in the women's college track and field field/cross country division while senior Rachel Boerner has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District second team. As a member of the first team, Gabrielse advances to the national ballot and
is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.
The college division of the Capital One Academic All-America program includes NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA schools. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Director's Association of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for nomination, an individual must be a starter or a key reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30.
Gabrielse is from Allendale and is a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School. She is making her first appearance on the all-district team.
At the MIAA Track and Field Championships this spring, she was the MIAA runner-up in the 400 meter hurdles while also placing fifth in the long jump and seventh in the 100 meter hurdles. She was also part of Calvin's 4x400 meter relay team that posted an NCAA III provisional qualifying time of 3:55.23 in late May.
In 2010, Gabrielse was an All-MIAA track and field selection after capturing the league title in the 400 meter hurdles while also placing third in the 100 meter hurdles. She also qualified for the 2010 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships as a member of Calvin's 4x400 member relay team. She also earned 2010 all-academic honors from the United States Track and Field Cross Coaches Association of America.
A member of the 2010 MIAA Academic Honor Roll, Gabrielse holds a 3.92 grade point average while majoring in nursing.
Boerner hails from Bergenfield, New Jersey. She is a graduate of Hillcrest Lutheran Academy of Minnesota. An eight-time NCAA III All-American in track and field, Boerner was a four-time national champion at Calvin, capturing indoor national titles in the 400 meters in 2010 and 2011 and also claiming a national championship in both the 400 meter dash and 400 meter hurdles at the 2010 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. At the 2011 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, she placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles - claiming her third straight All-America berth in the event. She was also the 2009 NCAA III runner-up in the 400 meter hurdles. In addition, she owns All-America plaques in the 4x400 meter relay both indoors (2009) and outdoors (2008).
A three-time All-MIAA selection in track and field, Boerner was named the MIAA's 2010 Most Valuable Runner in track and field.
A physics major with a minor in astronomy, Boerner carried a 3.38 grade point average and was graduated from Calvin last month. Last summer, she was named to the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team.
