Calvin Moves Into Lead In The First Winter Division III
Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings
CLEVELAND – Calvin College has moved into the top spot in the first winter
Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings with 461.25 points. The
Knights added 134.25 points to their fall total after finishing eighth in
women’s indoor track & field and 12th in men’s indoor track & field.
In second place and trailing by just 10.25 points is Washington University
(Mo.). The Bears
turned in results of eighth in men’s indoor track & field and 27th in women’s
indoor track & field for a winter total of 115 points. They have an overall
total of 451 points.
Moving into the top-five in third place is Wisconsin Oshkosh with 423 points.
The Titans
accumulated 216 points during the first set of winter championships by winning
the women’s
indoor track & field national championship and additional finishes of fourth
in men’s indoor track & field and 38th in wrestling.
Wartburg (Iowa) jumped from 18th in the final fall standings to fourth overall
after tallying a winter high 242.50 points. The Knights took home the wrestling
national championship, while also finishing second in women’s indoor track &
field and 21st in men’s indoor track & field. Wartburg has 415.50 total
points.
Rounding out the top-five is Williams (Mass.) with 401 points. The Ephs earned
165 points
through finishes of seventh in women’s indoor track & field, 23rd in wrestling
and 29th in men’s indoor track & field.
To date, three winter NCAA championships have been completed with the
following institutions capturing titles: men’s indoor track & field – North
Central (Ill.); women’s indoor track & field – Wisconsin Oshkosh; wrestling –
Wartburg (Iowa).
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between
the National
Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points
are awarded
based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women’s and nine
men’s.
The final Division III winter standings will be released Thursday, March 31,
2011.
