Game Times and Ticket Prices Announced for NCAA III Women's Basketball
Regional Tournament at Calvin; Carissa Verkaik Repeats as MIAA MVP In Women's
Basketball - Named To All-MIAA Team With Ally Wolffis; Tom Snikkers Named to
All-MIAA First Team in Men's Basketball - Danny Rodts Named to All-MIAA Second
Team; Calvin Leads MIAA All-Sports Standings Through Winter Sports Season
NCAA III REGIONAL WOMEN'S BASKETBALL INFORMATION
Game Times and ticket prices have been set for the four-team NCAA III Regional
Tournament scheduled to be held at Calvin March 4 and 5. On Friday, Hanover and
the University of Chicago will play at 5 p.m. (EST) Calvin will face La Roche
College later that night at 7:30 p.m. (EST). Friday's winners will face each
other in the regional final Saturday night at 7 p.m. (EST).
Ticket Prices are as follows: Reserved lower bowl seating will be $6.00 while
general admission tickets in the upper bowl will also be $6.00. Tickets for
students, children over two years of age and senior citizens will be $3.00.
ALL-MIAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS
For the second consecutive year, Calvin College sophomore center Carissa
Verkaik has been named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player in women's basketball. A
native of Holland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School, Verkaik is
the fourth individual from Calvin to earn MIAA MVP honors during the MIAA
winter sports season and is the second from Holland Christian High School to do
so as her former high school classmate Samantha Klaasen was named the MIAA
Women's Most Valuable Diver a week ago.
Verkaik has also been named to the All-MIAA first team for the second straight
year and is joined on the All-MIAA first team from Calvin by sophomore forward
Ally Wolffis. A native of Muskegon and a graduate of Muskegon Mona Shores High
School, Wolffis led the MIAA in field goal percentage this winter, shooting
63.0 percent from the floor in conference games while averaging 9.6 points and
4.3 rebounds a game. She also finished in the top 10 in the MIAA in free throw
percentage, connecting on 77.0 percent of her charity tosses. She was also
named MIAA Player of the Week once during the year.
Verkaik meanwhile led the MIAA in scoring average (19.1) and blocked shots
per-game (3.69). She was also ranked second in free throw percentage (.873),
fourth in rebounding average (8.7), second in field goal percentage (.619) and
10th in steals-per-game (2.0). She was also named MIAA Player of the Week three
times.
Under the direction of head coach John Ross, the Calvin women's basketball
team captured a share of its 12th MIAA regular season title and its first since
2007 by finishing 15-1 in league play, sharing the crown with Hope. Calvin then
captured its first MIAA Tournament title since 2005 last Saturday, defeating
Hope 67-65 in the MIAA Tournament finals.
Calvin is currently 24-4 overall and will host a four-team NCAA III regional
this Friday and Saturday. The Knights are now ranked 13th in the latest USA

ALL-MIAA MEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS
For the first time in his career, Calvin College sophomore forward Tom
Snikkers has been named to the All-MIAA first team in men's basketball. A
native of Jenison and a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School,
Snikkers holds a unique distinction this year as his older sister Carrie
Snikkers has been named to the All-MIAA first team in women's basketball as a
member of the Hope College women's basketball team. The brother/sister combo is
the first in MIAA history to receive All-MIAA first team honors in
men's/women's basketball.
During the conference season this winter, Snikkers averaged 15.1 points and
7.2 rebounds a game as he finished sixth in the MIAA scoring race and tied for
second in the MIAA rebounding race.He also tied for 10th in assists-per-game
(2.21). In a 72-69 win at Kalamazoo on February 3, he notched 27 points and
grabbed eight rebounds. He also collected three double-doubles during
conference play.
In addition, senior Danny Rodts has been named to the All-MIAA second team. A
native of Niles and a graduate of Niles High School, Rodts averaged 12.1 points
and 5.6 rebounds a game. He finished 11th in the MIAA scoring race and tied for
10th in the MIAA rebounding race. He was also eighth in the league in field
goal percentage (.487) and fourth in free throw percentage (.868) and
three-point field goal percentage (.421). He also tied for third in the MIAA in
three-point field goals made (24). A highlight for Rodts came in Calvin's
conference opener as the Knights won at rival Hope 95-81. In the win, Rodts
scored a career-high 30 points on 10 of 13 field goal shooting.
Under the direction of head coach Kevin Vande Streek, the Calvin men's
basketball team finished 16-12 overall and in second place in the final MIAA
regular season standings with a 9-5 conference mark. The Knights also reached
the MIAA Tournament Championship game before falling to Hope 72-67 in the title
tilt.
MIAA COMMISSIONER'S CUP STANDINGS UPDATE
With the MIAA winter sports season recently completed, the MIAA Commissioner's
Cup standings have been tabulated and Calvin holds an eight-point (137-129)
lead over Hope. In the women's all-sports standings, Calvin holds a six-point
(76-70) lead over Hope while Calvin holds a two-point (61-59) lead in the men's
all-sports standings over Hope.
With one-third of the 2010-11 MIAA sports season left to be completed, Calvin
has captured seven of the 12 MIAA titles that have been decided thus far.
Calvin has captured MIAA titles this year in men's soccer, women's volleyball,
men's and women's cross country, men's golf, women's swimming and diving and
women's basketball.
· The MIAA Commissioner’s Cup award is based on the cumulative performance of
each member school in the league's 18 sports for men and women.
· The final Commissioner’s Cup standings are determined on the basis of each
college's standings in eight of nine sports for men and eight of nine sports
for women. For this tabulation (thru the winter season) the standings are based
on five-of-six sports for men and five-of-six sports for women.
· Hope won the 2009-10 Commissioner’s Cup.
· The Commissioner’s Cup (All-Sports Award) has been presented since 1934-35.
Hope has won the award 32 times, followed by Albion 14, Kalamazoo 13, Calvin 9
& Alma 5.
