MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association has
announced the recipients of its All-Academic Team Awards and the Calvin men's
and women's cross country teams have been so honored.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have
had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better and have compiled a score (finished
at least five runners) at their respective NCAA regional championship.

The Calvin women's team posted a cumulative team grade point average of 3.57
while the Calvin men's team posted a cumulative team grade point average of
3.35.

Both Calvin teams are repeat recipients. In fact, the Calvin women's team has
received the award for 20 consecutive years.

Earlier this week, a number of individuals from both teams received individual
USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. On the women's side, seniors Gretchen Braymer,
Samantha Westveer and Alison Tuuk, junior Kaitlin Diemer, sophomore Alyssa
Penning and freshman Alyssa Oram received the award. On the men's side, seniors
Jake Christiansen and Ben VanWyk, junior Dan Kerr and sophomore Matt
VanderRoest were so honored.

Both Calvin cross country teams this year were led by head coach Brian
Diemer.

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

On Thursday night, freshman Andy Krafft became the first MIAA men’s diving
champion from Calvin since 1985, winning the one-meter competition with an NCAA
III qualifying, Calvin record and Jenison Aquatic Center record score of
511.45. Kraft broke the previous Calvin record for 11 dives on the one-meter
board of 510.00 set by Jake Chapman in 1999.

Calvin publications coordinator Lynn Rosendale caught up with Krafft earlier
this week and filed a feature story on his diving career. The story including a
short video clip of one of his dives Thursday night can be found on the Calvin
website at:
