Carissa Verkaik Named MIAA Player of the Week in Women's Basketball;
Men's Golf Team Featured in Michigan Golfer Magazine
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin center Carissa Verkaik its Player of the Week in women’s basketball for
games played through December 19.
Verkaik, a sophomore from Holland (Holland Christian HS), narrowly missed a
triple-double with 30 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots in 36 minutes
of play Saturday as the Knights overcame a 10-point deficit to defeat Albion,
73-65, to maintain first place in the MIAA. She made 9 of 15 shots from the
field, including two 3-point baskets, and 10 of 11 from the free-throw line.
She also four steals and three assists in the game. Verkaik is being honored
as Player of the Week for the second time this season and fifth time in her
career.
MEN'S GOLF
The 2010 Calvin men's golf team is feature in the most recent issue of
Michigan Golfer Magazine. The article, chronicling Calvin's improbable comeback
run for its first-ever MIAA title is written by Chris Lewis and can be found

This past fall, the Calvin men's golf team under the direction of head coach
Brian Bolt captured its first-ever league title by overcoming a 19-stroke
deficit on the final day of league competition, winning the conference crown by
a mere two strokes over Trine University.
As MIAA champions, the Knights will head to the NCAA III Championships next
May 11-13 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
