Calvin Volleyball Players Receive Great Lakes All-Region Honors;
Women's Swimming & Diving Team Ranked 24th in Division III National Poll
VOLLEYBALL
Three members of the Calvin volleyball team have received Great Lakes All-Region honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Named to the Great Lakes All-Region team from Calvin are junior Rebecca Kamp, sophomore Lizzie Kamp and freshman Megan Rietema. Rietema has also been named the Great Lakes Region Freshman of the Year. As members of the Great Lakes All-Region team, all three Calvin players are now eligible for All-America consideration from the AVCA.
A middle-blocker from Orland Park, Illinois, Rebecca Kamp is making her third straight appearance on the Great Lakes All-Region team. A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Kamp is averaging 4.22 kills, 1.35 blocks and 0.40 service aces-per-set. She also carries a hitting percentage of .441. During the year, she was named to all-tournament teams at the Wittenberg Border Battle and North Central College Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament. She is currently ranked second nationally in hitting percentage, fourth in blocks-per-set, sixth in points-per-set and 17th in kills-per-set. Last weekend, she was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player and was named to the All-MIAA first team for the third straight year.
An outside hitter from Orland Park, Illinois, Lizzie Kamp is making her second straight appearance on the Great Lakes All-Region team. A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, she is averaging 2.87 kills, 2.24 digs, 0.35 blocks and 0.22 service aces-per-set. She also carries a hitting percentage of .340. Earlier this year, she was named to the all-tournament team at the Wittenberg Border Battle. Last weekend, she was named to the All-MIAA first team.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Rietema is the third straight player from Calvin to be named Great Lakes Region Freshman of the Year. Rebecca Kamp received the award in 2008 and Lizzie Kamp was so honored in 2009. A setter, Rietema averages 10.95 assists-per-set, 1.13 blocks-per-set, 0.89 kills-per-set and 0.25 service aces per-set. She is currently ranked 10th nationally in assists-per-set and 32nd in blocks-per-set. Earlier this year, she was named to all-tournament teams at the Wittenberg Border Battle and North Central College Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament. Last weekend, she was named to the All-MIAA first team and was named the MIAA's Freshman of the Year.
Ranked 10th nationally, Calvin is currently 27-4 overall and will face 13th-ranked Heidelberg in a second round NCAA III Tournament match tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in Springfield, Ohio.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Calvin women's swimming and diving team is ranked 18th in the first Division III College Swim Coaches Association Poll of the Year. The Knights are one of two MIAA teams in the top 25 as Hope is ranked 17th. Kalamazoo is also ranked 21st in the poll.
On the men's side, Calvin received a vote in the national poll but is not in the top 25. Kalamazoo is ranked fourth, Hope 15th and Olivet 25th in the poll.
