HOLLAND, MI - The Calvin College Women’s Soccer team came into Van Andel
Soccer Stadium looking to defeat the Hope College Flying Dutch for the eighth
straight time. They did just that defeating the Dutch 4-0 in Tuesday night.

Calvin opened up the scoring early as Carly Prins, a senior out of Unity
Christian, scored with a crafty chip shot from 18 yards out in the 6th minute.
Calvin maintained possession throughout the early portions of the first half.
The second goal for the Knights again came off of Carly Prins’ foot as she
found the back corner of the net in the 27th minute. Calvin had to wait only
seven more minutes to go up 3-0. Francesca Smith hit a firecracker from inside
the box that hit off the crossbar and found the back of the net.

“Hope pushed early in the 2nd half. We had to play a bit more defensively so
we didn’t give up a goal. The defense did not give up many chances in the
first half” Calvin head coach Mark Recker said.

The second half was not near as exciting as the first half. Carly Prins found
the net for the third time scoring her 2nd hat trick in as many weeks. That
gave Calvin their fourth and final goal.

“Carly has worked hard during her four years at Calvin. She has worked very
hard on finishing and being more of an offensive producer. I always told her
to just get the ball on frame no matter how ugly it looks” said Recker of his
senior midfielder.

Calvin outshot the Dutch 21-12 in the contest. Calvin held a 7-1 advantage in
corner kicks as well.

This win puts Calvin at 11-2-2 on the year, 4-1-1 in the MIAA. Calvin returns
to action when they travel to Albion to face the Scots on Saturday.
