MORE WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
Megann Rhode, a 2007 Calvin College graduate, has been selected to represent
Canada in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in New Dehli, Indiana. Rhode will
compete in the hammer throw for Canada with the games scheduled to be held
October 6-12.
Rhode is one of three hammer throwers on the Canadian track and field team
that will travel to India for the Commonwealth Games.
The Commonwealth Games competition is a multinational, multi-sport event which
features competitions involving thousands of elite athletes from members of the
Commonwealth of Nations. Organized every four years, they are the third-largest
multi-sport event in the world, after the Summer Olympic Games and the Asian
Games.
As well as many Olympic sports, the Games also include some sports that are
played mainly in Commonwealth countries, such as lawn bowls, rugby sevens and
netball.
Rhode is currently training with the Kamloops Track and Field Club in
Kamploops, British Columbia. Last weekend, she took third in the hammer throw
at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Toronto, Ontario.
