NOTRE DAME, IN - The Belles of Saint Mary's flexed their offensive muscles on Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader from Calvin by scores of 8-2 and 15-0. Saint Mary's entered Wednesday's twinbill ranked eighth in the most recent NCAA III statistics in team batting average. The Belles continued to beef up their batting average against Calvin, collecting 27 hits in the two games including seven of the extra-base variety.
 
In game one, Saint Mary's (21-15 overall, 10-4 MIAA) used a four-run second inning to break a 1-1 tie. The Belles added two in the fourth and one in the fifth while Calvin scored a run in the top of the fifth. Calvin did collect nine hits in the loss led by junior Sass VanRooyen (Beamsville, ON/Smithville District Christian HS) who was 4-for-4 at the plate while sophomore Marie Prins (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) and senior Mandy Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northpointe Christian HS) had two hits apiece.
 
Calvin (10-23 overall, 5-9 MIAA) stranded 10 baserunners in the loss and also committed three errors which led to five unearned runs. Freshman Shelby Mast (Hudsonville/Hudsonville HS) took the loss, striking out three and walking two.
 
In game two, Saint Mary's rapped out 16 hits and put the game away with a nine-run third inning. Calvin had three hits in the loss including one from Prins and one from VanRooyen. VanRooyen now has a four-game hit streak going and had reached base safely in six of Calvin's last seven games. Prins has a five-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in eight of Calvin's last 10 games. Prins is hitting a team-leading .383 on the year while Van Rooyen is close behind at .378.
 
Johnson took the loss in game two for Calvin with Mast tossing two innings of relief.
 
Calvin will close out its season on Saturday with a conference doubleheader at Adrian slated to start at 1 p.m.
