Mixed Results for Swimming & Diving Teams at Kalamazoo;
Boerner and Leach Post NCAA III Indoor Provisional Qualifying Performances at
Eubanks Open
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams had
mixed results in dual meet action at Kalamazoo on Saturday as the women's team
defeated Kalamazoo 187-113 while the men's team fell to Kalamazoo 153-121.
The Calvin women's team is now 4-2 in dual meet action including 3-0 against
MIAA opponents. The Calvin men's team is now 2-4 in dual meet competition
including 2-1 against MIAA opponents.
In the women's meet, Calvin received first place performances from:
*Freshman Stephanie Fox in the 1,000 freestyle (10:56.59) and 200 backstroke
(2:16.33).
*Junior Monica Bressler in the 200 freestyle (2:02.81) and 100 freestyle
(55.53).
*Freshman Elizabeth Counsell in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.54).
*Senior Maggie Vail in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.97).
*Freshman Rachel Colasurdo in the 500 freestyle (5:26.81).
*Senior Casey Herman on the three-meter diving board (250.05).
*Senior Kelley Barr in the 200 IM (2:19.19).
*Calvin's 200 freestyle relay of senior Emily Roberts, senior Laura Price,
Vail and senior Allysa Ludema with a time of 1:43.84 & its 200 medley relay
team of sophomore Brianna Vanden Ende, Vail, Roberts and Bressler with a time
of 1:53.47.
In the men's meet, winners from Calvin included:
*Sophomore Ethan Tatum was a winner in the 500 freestyle (5:23.11).
*Sophomore Luke Griffioen in the 100 butterfly (1:00.34).
*Freshman Colin Reynolds on the one-meter diving board (187.10).
*Freshman Stephen Kraft in the 200 IM (2:05.16).
*Calvin's 200 freestyle relay of sophomore Ross Battoclette, senior Jon
Herrema, Tatum and senior Kurt VanAllsburg with a time of 1:31.66.
Both Calvin teams return to action next Friday with the women competing
against Alma and Saint Mary's and the men competing against Alma. Competition
on Friday is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Calvin's Venema Aquatic Center.
MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
ALLENDALE – The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams continued their
indoor campaigns late Friday night at the Bob Eubanks Open hosted by Grand
Valley State University.
Highlighting the evening was the performance of junior Rachel Boerner who won
the 400 meters with a strong NCAA III (indoor) provisional qualifying time of
57.86.
In the women’s 5,000 meters, junior Samantha Westveer took third with a time
of 18:32.73.
In the women’s pole vault, senior Joy Leach took third with an NCAA III
(indoor) provisional qualifying performance of 11-9 ¾.
On the men’s side, freshman Greg Whittle took second in the mile run with a
time of 4:20.03,
