Emily Ottenhoff Named Second Team All-American by National Soccer Coaches

Calvin College senior Emily Ottenhoff has been named a Division III second
team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American. A
native of Palos Heights, Illinois, Ottenhoff is the fourth individual in Calvin
women's soccer history to be named an NSCAA Division III All-American with Tara
Dyk (1997 & 1998), Amber Wiersma (1997) and Jill Capel (2006) previously
receiving the honor as Calvin players.
A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Ottenhoff was named the MIAA’s
Most Valuable Player this fall. Over the course of the 2009 season, she scored
seven goals, collected four assists and had 18 points.
She was also two-for-two on penalty kick attempts, concluding her four-year
Calvin career with a perfect seven-for-seven showing on penalties.
A two-time first team All-MIAA selection, Ottenhoff concluded her Calvin
career with 32 goals, 11 assists and 75 points. Of her 32 career goals, 13 were
game-winners.
One of her game-winning goals came in a 1-0 second round NCAA III Tournament
victory over Wittenberg University this past month.
Calvin concluded the 2009 season with an overall record of 16-5-1 as the
Knights reached the NCAA III Tournament for the fifth straight year. The
Knights advanced all the way to the national quarterfinals, reaching the
quarters for the second time in four years.
The Knights also captured the MIAA title for the fifth consecutive year,
finishing 7-1-0 in league play.
Ottenhoff is the second Calvin fall sports athlete from Chicago Christian High
School to land All-America honors this year.
Last month, Chicago Christian High School graduate Rebecca Kamp was an
All-American selection in volleyball.
Calvin has now had four of its athletes receive All-America status this fall
as Kelsey Sears was also an All-American in volleyball and Jessica Koster an
All-American in women's cross country.
