Rebecca Kamp Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American

VOLLEYBALL

Calvin College sophomore Rebecca Kamp has added another prestigious honor to her growing mantel of awards as she has been named a first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in women's volleyball in the college division.

A native of Orland Park, Illinois, Kamp is the first women's volleyball player from Calvin to receive ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.

A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Kamp is one of only 18 individuals that were selected either first, second or third Academic All-Americans in the college division which includes schools from the NCAA II and NCAA III ranks as well as NAIA institutions.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program is selected by the College Sports Information Director's Association of America (CoSIDA).

A 6-2 middle-hitter, Kamp compiled a .337 hitting percentage while averaging 4.14 kills, 1.91 digs and 1.22 blocks-per-set this fall. She also record 50 service aces for an average of 0.42 service aces-per-set as she helped Calvin compile a 28-7 overall record and reach the second round of the NCAA III Tournament.

Last week she was named a Division III first team All-American for the second straight year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Kamp is also a two-time All-MIAA first team selection and a two-time Great Lakes All-Region choice. As a freshman in 2008, she was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player, the MIAA's Freshman of the Year and the Great Lakes Region Freshmen of the Year.

In the classroom, Kamp carries a 3.83 grade point average while majoring in special education and minoring in mathematics. She is a two-time member of the Calvin Dean's List and was a member of the 2008-09 MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

Kamp is the third Calvin fall sports athlete to receive ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America honors this year. Last week, Allison Boender of the women's soccer team and Greg Snapper of the men's soccer team were so honored.

Calvin has now had its athletes receive ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America accolades 83 times including 52 times in the last 12 years.
