MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The MIAA men's and women's basketball pre-season coaches' polls have been announced. On the men's side, Calvin has been picked as the MIAA co-favorite with Hope. Both teams received four first place votes and four second place votes, creating a tie with 10 points apiece. Olivet was picked to finish third.
On the women's side, Calvin was picked to finish second behind defending champion Hope. Hope received six first place votes while Calvin received two. Saint Mary's was picked to finish third.

VOLLEYBALL
Calvin College sophomore Rebecca Kamp has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV first team in women's volleyball in the college division. As a member of the all-district first team, Kamp advances to the national ballot and is eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America consideration.
The college division includes NCAA II and III schools as well as NAIA institutions.
Kamp carries a 3.83 grade point average while majoring in special education and minoring in mathematics.
On the court, Kamp is averaging 4.14 kills and 1.22 blocks-per-set along with a hitting percentage of .345. She is also averaging 2.06 digs-per-set and has 50 service aces on the season. Kamp is currently ranked 18th nationally in kills, 17th in blocks and 35th in hitting percentage.
A year ago, Kamp was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player. She was later named the Great Lakes Region Freshman of the Year and a Division III First Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association of America.

HOCKEY
Calvin's ACHA hockey team is preparing for another big weekend. Under the direction of head coach Mike Petrusma, the Knights are off to an 8-0 start and are ranked fourth in the first ACHA Division III North Region rankings. Grand Valley State's Division III team is the top-ranked team in the region followed by Hope (2nd) and Northwood (3rd).
Calvin is scheduled to face Northwood in a pair of games this weekend, hosting Northwood Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Jolly Roger Ice Arena and then traveling to Northwood on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. contest at the Midland Civic Arena.
Calvin has been led in scoring this year by senior forward Justin Blaauwendraat who has 20 points on the strength of 11 goals and nine assists this season. A year ago, Blaauwendraat was named to the All-North Region third team.
