CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 2, 2009

Calvin Cross Country Runners Land Honors From MIAA

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

A plethora of Calvin cross country runners have received All-MIAA honors. The all-conference awards were announced upon completion of the MIAA Championships held this past Saturday at Adrian College. Both Calvin teams rolled to first place finishes with perfect team scores of 15 points, marking the first time in MIAA history that men's and women's teams from the same school posted perfect scores at the league championships in the same year.

Leading the list for the Calvin men is sophomore Nick Kramer (Dyer, Indiana/Illiana Christian HS) who was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Runner. Kramer took first place at the MIAA Championships with a time of 26:53. Kramer also took first place at the MIAA Jamboree earlier this year.

In addition, Kramer has been named to the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year. He was also joined on the All-MIAA first team from Calvin by seniors Aaron Goodman (Milawauke, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran HS), Kyle Mast (Zeeland/Holland Christian HS) and George Visser (Winfield, IL/West Chicago HS), junior Alex Wrobel (Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View HS), sophomore Dan Kerr (Petoskey/Petoskey HS) and freshman Matt VanderRoest (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Huron HS). Visser is receiving All-MIAA first team accolades for the second straight year while Mast, Goodman, Kerr and VanderRoest are receiving the honor for the first time.

On the women's side, senior Jessica Koster (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) has been named the MIAA's Most Valuable Runner. Koster received the award after placing first at the MIAA Championships with a time of 22:56 while also placing first at the MIAA Jamboree earlier this year. Koster also earned a spot on the All-MIAA first team for the third time. She is joined on the All-MIAA first team from Calvin by seniors Jesi Hale (Rehoboth, NM/Gallup HS) and Liz Smit (Kirkland, WA/Bellevue Christian HS), junior Gretchen Braymer (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) and sophomores Rebecca Hiemstra (Dusseldorf, Germany/International School of Dusseldorf) and Jodi Hoekstra (Homer Glen, IL/Chicago Christian HS).

In addition, junior Alison Tuuk (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) has been named to the All-MIAA second team from Calvin.

Both Calvin teams are currently preparing for the NCAA III Great Lakes Regional meet, scheduled to take place on November 14 at Rose-Hulman Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana.
