CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR OCT. 31, 2009 (PART TWO)

Volleyball Finishes 4-0 at Midwest Challenge - To Face Saint Mary's in First
Round of MIAA Tournament;
Women's Soccer to Face Kalamazoo in MIAA Tournament Semifinals:
Men's Soccer Falls to Kalamazoo - Falls Further Behind in MIAA Standings;

VOLLEYBALL

The Calvin volleyball team completed play in the Midwest Challenge by
defeating Saint Mary's 25-13, 25-4, 25-8 and Hanover 25-5, 25-8, 25-21. Ranked
13th nationally, the Knights are currently 24-6 overall. Saturday's match
against Saint Mary's also served as a conference match, allowing Calvin to
finish in second place in the final MIAA regular season standings at 14-2 in
league play. Calvin will face Saint Mary's once again on Tuesday in a first
round MIAA Tournament match at the Van Noord Arena.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Calvin women’s soccer team will host Kalamazoo at 3:00 p.m. in an MIAA
Tournament semifinal game next Tuesday. Kalamazoo defeated Hope 1-0 in a first
round game on Saturday. Adrian will host Albion in the other semifinal game on
Tuesday. Albion advanced in the tournament by winning a penalty kick shootout
at Alma 3-2 on Saturday. As the top two seeds in the tournament, Calvin and
Adrian received first round byes.

Tuesday's semifinal winners will meet in the MIAA Tournament final next
Saturday at noon at the site of the highest remaining seed. The winner of the
MIAA Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament.

MEN'S SOCCER

KALAMAZOO -- The Calvin men’s soccer team suffered its second consecutive
defeat, falling 3-0 at Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon. Kalamazoo scored a
pair of goals in the opening 23 minutes and added an insurance goal in the
opening minutes of the second half. Calvin outshot Kalamazoo 14-6 but could not
dent the net.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jared Rushlau (Grandville/Grandville HS) had one save for
Calvin in net.

Calvin now trails Hope by four points with just two games left to play in the
MIAA schedule. Hope will be at Olivet on Wednesday while Calvin will travel to
Trine. The two rivals will then face each other at Calvin next Saturday at 2:30
p.m.

The Knights are now 13-4-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the MIAA.
