Women's Tennis Nipped By Hope;

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Hope 5, Calvin 4
HOLLAND -- The Calvin women's tennis team dipped to 5-6 overall and to 1-1 in the MIAA with a 5-4 loss at Hope on Tuesday in a match played at Hope's DeWitt Tennis Center. Hope took an early 2-1 lead with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles with Calvin's No. 1 doubles tandem of sophomores Melissa Oosterhouse (Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Kaitlin Spoelhof (Holland Christian HS) winning by an 8-5 score.
Hope then clinched the match with wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Calvin did pick up wins from junior Rachel Strikwerda (Holland Christian HS) at No. 4 singles, sophomore Michelle Busscher (Western Michigan Christian HS) at No. 5 singles and junior Rachel DeGroot (Lombard IL) at No. 6 singles. Of the six singles matches, three were decided in three sets.
Calvin is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Trine at 1:00 p.m.

MEN'S TENNIS
The Calvin men's tennis team improved to 7-2 overall and to 1-0 in the MIAA with a 9-0 win over Alma Tuesday afternoon inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center. The Knights are now 3-0 in matches played inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
Calvin returns to action on Friday when it travels to Earlham for a 3:00 p.m. match.

BASEBALL
For the first time in his collegiate career, Calvin College junior Ben Sietsema has been named MIAA Pitcher of the Week. A graduate of nearby Northpointe Christian High School, Sietsema tossed a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 win over Kalamazoo this past Saturday in Calvin's MIAA opener. In his seven innings of work, Sietsema struck out four and walked one as he faced only 22 batters, one over the minimum.
Sietsema is currently 1-1 on the year with a 4.24 earned run average with eight strikeouts.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Calvin College seniors Caleb Veldhouse and Marcia Harris have both received All-America honors from DIII News and Women's DIII News respectively. Veldhouse has been named to the DIII News All-America fifth team while Harris has been named to the Women's DIII News All-American fourth team.
A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Veldhouse concluded his career seventh on the Calvin career scoring list (1,627 points) and second on the Calvin career three-point field goals list (214). During his career, Veldhouse was a four-time first team All-MIAA selection. He is one of only seven four-time All-MIAA (first team) selections in league history in men's basketball. Earlier this month, he was named to the NABC Great Lakes All-Distrist second team.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Harris concluded her collegiate career second on the Calvin career scoring list with 1,551 points. She also surpassed the 500 rebound mark, finishing her collegiate career with 506 caroms. Last month, Harris was named to the All-MIAA first team in women's basketball for the fourth straight year, becoming just the second individual in MIAA women's basketball history to do so.
