Cross Country Teams Nationally-Ranked;
Women's Soccer Moves Up IN National Rankings

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

The Calvin men's and women's cross country teams both hold top-four positions in the most recent set of Division III rankings released by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Calvin men's cross country team is ranked second in the first national poll of the year while the Calvin women's cross country team is ranked fourth. In addition, both Calvin teams are ranked number-one in their respective Great Lakes Regional polls.

Cortland State of New York is the top-ranked team in the men's national poll while defending national champion Amherst (MA) is the top-ranked team in the women's national poll.

A year ago, both Calvin cross country teams captured MIAA and Great Lakes Regional titles. Both teams then placed fourth at the NCAA III Cross Country Championships. The Calvin men's and women's cross country teams are scheduled to open their seasons on September 20 when they host the Knight Invitational.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Calvin women's soccer team has moved up four spots in the most recent set of Division III Top 25 rankings released by the National Sosccer Coaches Association of America. The Knights are ranked 15th in this week's poll after having been ranked 19th last week.

Calvin opened the 2008 season this past weekend, splitting a pair of games at the Washington University Classic, falling to ninth-ranked Washington 3-2 in overtime on Friday before coming back to defeat Transylvania 1-0 on Saturday.

Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts cross-town rival Aquinas in a 4:00 p.m. contest at Calvin's Zuidema Field. The game will be broadcast via Stretch Internet with Chaz Amidon calling all of the action. A link to the broadcast can be found at: http://www.calvin.edu/sports
