Two Calvin Baseball Players Receive All-Midwest Region Honors
BASEBALL
Two members of the Calvin baseball team have received All-Mideast Region baseball honors. The two players are junior Nate Pocock and freshman Peter Steiner. Both players are pitchers and both players have been named to the All-Mideast Region Second Team. The all-region teams are selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association and sponsored by Rawlings.
A native of Wayland, Massachusetts, Pocock finished the 2008 season with an 8-2 record and an earned run average of 3.25. In 63.2 innings of work, Pocock struck out 61 batters and walked only 21. A graduate of Wayland (MA) High School, Pocock was named the MIAA's Pitcher of the Year earlier this month and landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team.
Steiner hails from Chicago and is a graduate of Glenbrook South High School. Steiner was undefeated this year, posting an 8-0 record in 10 appearances along with a 3.06 earned run average. Steiner was named to the All-MIAA second team earlier this spring.
Calvin recently concluded its 2008 campaign with an overall record of 32-10, establishing a new Calvin single-season record for victories. The Knights also captured their first MIAA title since 2008, finishing 23-5 in league play and advancing to the NCAA III Tournament for the fourth time in school history.
The Knights were under the direction of first-year head coach John Sparks.
