Men's Tennis Drops Nailbiter to Aquinas
MEN'S TENNIS
Aquinas 5, Calvin 4
In a meeting of nationally-ranked teams and cross-town rivals, Aquinas nipped Calvin 5-4 in a match played at the Orchard Hills Tennis Center. Aquinas entered the match ranked 22nd in the most recent NAIA Division III Top 25 rankings while Calvin was ranked 30th in the latest set of Division III Top 25 rankings.
Aquinas (13-2) took control early, winning all three doubles points but Calvin came back to tie the score at 4-4 with four victories in singles play. Aquinas closed out the win however by claiming the lone remaining singles point.
Picking up singles victories for Calvin were senior Ricky Tilton (Gap, PA) at No. 1 singles, junior Marcus Zeilstra (Oak Brook, IL) at No. 2 singles, junior Steve DeMaagd (Calvin Christian HS) at No. 3 singles and freshman Matt DeVlieger (Northpointe Christian HS) at No. 5 singles.
Calvin (4-2) returns to action on Saturday when it faces Grand Valley State in a non-conference match scheduled to be held at the Riverview Tennis Center.
