Women's Swim Team Sending Eight To NCAA III Championships - Diving Field To Be
Announced Tomorrow;
Cross Country Teams Receive All-Academic Honors;
Calvin Leads MIAA Women's All-Sports Standings - Second Place In Overall
Commissioner's Cup Standings

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

The Calvin women's swim team will be sending eight individuals to the upcoming
NCAA III Championships scheduled to be held March 13-15 in Oxford, Ohio, on the
campus of the University of Miami, Ohio.

Scheduled to compete for Calvin are seniors Kat Vinson and Stephanie Duncan,
juniors Cara VanWoerkom and Julie Wolfe, sophomores Laura Price, Emily Roberts
and Maggie Vail and freshman Kendra Kinzer. The diving field for the NCAA III
Championships will be announced tomorrow. Calvin junior Erica Deur
(Holland/Holland Christian HS) is expected to be a part of the field. Senior
Lis Beal (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and sophomore Casey Herman
(Libertyville, IL/Libertyville HS) are also under consideration.

Calvin is set to compete in all five relays at the meet and will also be
represented in seven individual swimming events. Here is a biographical
breakdown of Calvin's swimmers scheduled to compete at the championship meet.
Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team is seeded fifth, its 400 medley relay team
seeded 14th, its 200 medley relay team seeded 15th, its 800 freestyle relay
team seeded seventh and its 400 freestyle relay team seeded 12th.

KAT VINSON--(Kaneohe, HI/Punahou HS)--Vinson will be making her fourth straight
appearance at the NCAA III Championships. Vinson is scheduled to compete in the
200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay and in Calvin's medley relays.

STEPHANIE DUNCAN--(Long Grove, IL/Adlai E. Stevenson HS)--Like Vinson, Duncan
will be making her fourth straight trip to the NCAA III Championships. She is
scheduled to compete in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and
in Calvin's 400 and 800 freestyle relays.

CARA VANWOERKOM--(Wyoming/Calvin Christian HS)--VanWoerkom will compete in the
50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle. She will also compete in
Calvin's freestyle relay teams.

JULIE WOLFE--(Westerville, OH/Westerville North HS)--Wolfe will be making her
third straight appearance at the NCAA III Championships. She will compete in
Calvin's 200 and 400 freestyle relays and in Calvin's medley relays.

LAURA PRICE--(Warren, PA/Warren HS)--Price will be making her second straight
trip to the NCAA III Championships. She will compete as a member of Calvin's
800 freestyle relay team and will also swim in the 200 freestyle.

EMILY ROBERTS--(DeKalb, IL/DeKalb HS)--Roberts will be making her second
straight trip to the NCAA III Championships. She will compete in the 100
breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and in Calvin's 200 and 400 medley relay teams.

MAGGIE VAIL--(Portage/Portage Northern HS)--Vail will be making her first trip
to the NCAA III Championships. She is scheduled to compete in the 100
breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and in Calvin's medley relays.

KENDRA KINZER--(Fort Wayne, IN/Homestead HS)--Kinzer will be making her first
trip to the NCAA III Championships. She is scheduled to compete as a member of
Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team.

A year ago, Calvin placed fourth with a team score of 251 points, recording its
best-ever national team finish.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

The Calvin men's and women's cross country teams have once again earned
all-academic honors from the United States Track and Field Cross Country
Coaches Association of America.

To be honored as an All-Academic Cross Country Team, Division III schools
needed a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.10 and must have posted a team score
at a regional meet. There were 98 Division III men's teams that earned
All-Academic Team honors and a record 143 women's teams that earned the award.

In addition, two members of the Calvin men's cross country team earned
individual All-Academic honors from the USTFCCA while Calvin women's cross country team were so honored. Receiving the award from the
Calvin men's team were senior Jon Gries and junior Erik VanKampen. Receiving
the award from the Calvin women's team were senior Lynn Marsh, junior Calah
Schlabach and sophomore Jessica Koster. To earn Division III All-Academic
individual honors, runners had to maintain a cumulative GPA of at 3.5 or higher
and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective NCAA III Regional meet. A
total of 150 student-athletes earned Division III
All-Academic Men's Cross Country honors while a total of 203 student-athletes
received the award on the women's side.

Gries is from King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Upper Merion
High School. At the NCAA III Championships, Gries took 50th. VanKampen is from
Elmhurst, Illinois. He is a graduate of Timothy Christian High School. At the
NCAA III Championships, VanKampen garnered All-America accolades with a 35th
place individual finish. Gries and VanKampen helped Calvin finish fourth as a
team at the national meet, marking Calvin's 10th consecutive top-four national
finish.

On the women's side, Marsh hails from North Vernon, Indiana. She is a graduate
of Jennings High School. At the NCAA III Championships, Marsh placed 115th.
Schlabach is from St. Michaels, Arizona. She is a graduate of St. Michaels High
School. At the NCAA III Championship, Schlabach placed 52nd. Koster is from
Grand Rapids and is a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School. At the
NCAA III Championships, Koster placed 49th. Marsh, Schlabach and Koster helped
the Calvin women finish fourth as a team at the national meet, marking Calvin's
second consecutive top-four national finish.

MIAA ALL-SPORTS STANDINGS UPDATE

Through the recently completed MIAA winter sports season, Calvin sits in second
place in the MIAA Commissioner's Cup Standings and in second place in the MIAA
Men's All-Sports standings. Calvin leads the MIAA Women's All-Sports standings
however with Calvin bidding to win the award for the fourth time in five years.

Hope currently leads the MIAA Commissioner's Cup standings with 134 points with
Calvin second with 126 points. Albion is third with 99 points. Hope leads the
MIAA Men's All-Sports standings with 67 points with Calvin second with 50
points and Albion third with 44. Calvin leads the MIAA Women's All-Sports
standings with 76 points with Hope second with 67 points and Albion third with
55 points.

Through the winter sports season, Calvin has captured a league-leading six MIAA
regular season titles this year, winning league crowns in men's and women's
soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and in women's
swimming and diving.

•The MIAA All-Sports award is based on the cumulative performance of each
member school in the league's 18 sports for men and women.

•The final All-Sports standings will be determined on the basis of each
college's standings in eight of nine sports for men and eight of nine sports
for women. The standings after the winter season is based on 10 of 12 sports
played to date (five for men and five for women).

• As a single sport member (football), Wisconsin Lutheran was not computed into
the all-sports standings.

• Hope College won the 2006-07 Commissioner’s Cup and the Men’s All-Sports
Award and Calvin won the Women’s All-Sports Award. The Commissioner’s Cup
(MIAA All-Sports Award) has been presented since 1934-35. Hope has won the
award 29 times, followed by Albion 14, Kalamazoo 13, Calvin 8 and Alma 5.
