Aaron Winkle Named to D3hoops.com All-Decade Team;
Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Prepare for MIAA Championships;
Think Pink Night Scheduled Wednesday Night for Women's Basketball Team;
Hockey Team Prepares for Regional Tournament - Russ' Restaraunt Event Scheduled for Feb. 18

AARON WINKLE NAMED TO D3HOOPS.COM ALL-DECADE TEAM

Aaron Winkle, a 2000 Aaron WinkleCalvin graduate and a curent Calvin Seminary student has been named as an honorable mention selection to the D3hoops.com All-Decade Team.

D3hoops.com is celebrating a decade of NCAA Division III men's and women's basketball coverage this month by naming its All-Decade Teams. The Web site, which became the first piece of the D3sports.com network at the beginning of the 1997-98 season, honored five teams of five players each from the past 10 seasons.

At Calvin, Winkle helped lead Calvin to a national title during the 1999-2000 season. He was named the Division III Player of the Year in 2000. He is currently ranked fifth on the Calvin career scoring list (1,802 points) and fifth on the Calvin career rebounding list (737 rebounds).

Winkle was a first team Division III All-American in 2000 as named by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). In addition, he was named a first team All-American by D3hoops.com in 2000 and a third team selection in 1999.

A two-time Academic All-American, Winkle was also a finalist for the 2000 Josten's Trophy.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS PREPARE FOR MIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Thursday, the Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams will open three days of competition at the MIAA Championships. This year's conference meet will be held at the Holland Aquatic Center with Hope College serving as host.

Directions to the Holland Aquatic Center, a schedule of events for the weekend and a lineup (psyche) sheet can all be found on the MIAA web site at: http://www.miaa.org

The Calvin women's swimming and diving team is the three-time defending MIAA champion while the Olivet men's swimming and diving team is the two-time defending MIAA champion.

Action begins each morning at 10:00 a.m. with championship finals set for 6:00 p.m. each night.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM TO JOIN WBCA IN THINK PINK PROGRAM WEDNESDAY NIGHT

On Wednesday night, the women's basketball team will host Adrian at 7:30 p.m.

Fans attending Wednesday's Calvin-Adrian women's basketball game will be able to show their support for breast cancer research and awareness!

In conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the Calvin women's basketball teams are hosting a breast cancer awareness event on Wednesday, February 13. Think PinkThe event is called "Think Pink".

The teams will warm up in special pink t-shirts as pink will be the theme for the evening. Any adult fan wearing a pink shirt will receive $1 off admission, and any student fan wearing a pink shirt will receive a coupon for a FREE box of popcorn. Let's fill the bleachers with pink and show support for the 1 in 8 women who will be affected by invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.

MEN'S CLUB ICE HOCKEY

on Friday night, the Calvin men's club ice hockey team will be competing in the ACHA Division III Regional Tournament in Midland. The Knights will face Oakland University on Friday night and will play again on Saturday if they win Friday. Calvin will carry a 13-11 overall record into regional tournament play.

Also of note, the Calvin hockey team will serving the tables in the back section of the Russ' Restaraunt in Kentwood on Monday, February 18. Fans and supporters are encouraged to meet the guys and support the team. A portion of the night's revenue, plus donations, will help support the Hockey Team's yearly expenses.
