Veldhouse Named MIAA Player of the Week in Men's Basketball;
Capisciolto and Dufendach Receive Great Lakes All-Region Honors;
Katie Zondervan Is NCAA III Statistical Champion In Women's Volleyball
MEN'S BASKETBALL
For the second time this year and for the third time in his career, Calvin junior guard Caleb Veldhouse has been named MIAA Player of the Week in men's basketball. A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Veldhouse scored 28 points in an 80-47 victory over Trinity Christian College Saturday afternoon. A graduate of Sioux Falls Christian High School, Veldhouse was 12 of 17 from the floor in the win including four of five from three-point range. He was also credited with three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
In the victory, Veldhouse became the 18th player in Calvin men's basketball history to reach the 1,000 point plateau in a career. Veldhouse currently has 1,007 points in his Calvin career and sits in 17th place on the Calvin all-time scoring list.
Now 5-3 on the season, Calvin returns to action on December 28 when it competes at the Richie Adubato Tournament hosted by Montclair State University (NJ). Calvin will take on Keene State of New Hampshire at 5:00 p.m. on December 28 with Montclair State facing Salem State in the second first round game. The championship game is set for December 29 at 3:00 p.m. with the consolation game to take place at 1:00 p.m.

MEN'S SOCCER
Two members of the Calvin men's soccer team have received Division III Great Lakes All-Region accolades as named by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as senior Nick Capisciolto has been named to the second team and A.J. Dufendach to the third team.
A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Unity Christian High School, Capisciolto is receiving Great Lakes All-Region honors for the second time as he was a third team selection in 2005. This past fall, Capisciolto scored nine goals and collected six assists for 24 points, ranking second on the Calvin scoring list this fall. He also finished his Calvin career with 30 goals, 30 assists and 90 points, ranking ninth on the Calvin career list for goals, fourth in assists and fifth in points.
Dufendach is from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of Forest Hills Northern High School. A central midfielder, Dufendach was a standout two-way player for the Knights this fall, contributing to a Calvin defense that posted nine shutout victories while scoring two goals and collecting two assists on offense for a total of six points. Dufendach is receiving Great Lakes All-Region honors for the first time.
Under the direction of head coach Chris Hughes, Calvin finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 14-5-2, advancing to the NCAA III Tournament for the third time in the last four years and winning the outright MIAA title with a 12-1-1 conference mark.

VOLLEYBALL
Calvin College senior Katie Zondervan is the NCAA statistical champion in assists-per-game average in women's volleyball. The final NCAA III statistics were released this past weekend and Zondervan led all NCAA III players with an assists-per-game average of 13.69, accumulating 1,602 assists over 117 games. The statistical championship marks the summit of a year-by-year progression by Zondervan in the final national statistical rankings. As a freshman in 2004, Zondervan finished fifth in the final NCAA III statistics in assists-per-game average (13.55) and then finished third in 2005 (13.43) and second in 2006 (14.13).
A native of Lakewood, California, Zondervan was named to the All-MIAA first team in volleyball this past fall for the fourth straight year, becoming the fifth individual in MIAA women's volleyball history to do so. A graduate of Valley Christian High School, Zondervan was also named to the Great Lakes All-Region team this fall and was then named a third team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association of America.
Zondervan also helped Calvin finish second in the final NCAA III statistics for assists-per-game average as a team (15.13). In addition, Calvin finished fifth as a team in kills-per-game (16.25) and 11th in winning percentage (.857) in the final statistics.
Calvin seniors Molly Krikke and Kristen Kalb also cracked the final individual statistics as Krikke finished 21st in kills-per-game (4.79) while Kalb finished 34th (4.46). Krikke is from Greenwich, Ohio. She is a graduate of South Central High School. Kalb is from Stow, Ohio. She is a graduate of Stow-Munroe Falls High School.
Calvin finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 30-5, reaching the NCAA III Tournament for the fourth straight year. Calvin also captured its second consecutive MIAA title with a 15-1 conference mark and won its fourth straight MIAA Tournament crown.
