Women's Drops Illinois College For Second Win of Season

CINCINNATI, OH -- The Calvin women's basketball team picked up its second victory of the young season with a 62-52 victory over Illinois College at the Franklin Savings Bank Classic hosted by the College of Mount St. Joseph Saturday evening.

Calvin (2-0) raced out to a 41-25 halftime lead and then maintained a double-digit lead until the final minute of play. Junior center Marcia Harris (Grand Rapids Christian HS) had another strong game for the Knights, scoring 24 points on the strength of 11 of 14 field goal shooting while ripping down nine rebounds. She was joined in double-figure scoring by junior wing Kristi Brummel (South Christian HS) who whipped in 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Brummel connected on four three-point shots and picked up a pair of steals.

Sophomore Brooke VanEck (Lowell HS) also had eight points while junior post Lauren Roodvoets (South Christian HS) had four points and four blocked shots.

Senior point guard Nikki Zimmerman (Traverse City West HS) also had a game-high five assists.

Calvin shot 42.6 percent from the field and held Illinois College (1-1) to 33.3 percent field goal shooting.
