CSR (Calvin Women's Soccer Players Receive All-MIAA Honors)

CALVIN WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS RECEIVE ALL-MIAA HONORS

Six members of the MIAA Championship Calvin women's soccer team have received All-MIAA honors.

Named to the All-MIAA first team from Calvin are juniors Ashley Bolen and Elizabeth Ribbens and freshman Carly Prins. Named to the All-MIAA second team from Calvin are senior Leah Scholten and sophomores Alyssa Bergsma and Emily Ottenhoff.

A native of Urbana, Illinois, Bolen is making her first appearance on the All-MIAA first team. A sweeper-back on defense, Bolen has been a two-way threat for the Knights this year, scoring one goal and racking up a team-best 10 assists for a total of 12 points. On defense, Bolen anchored a Calvin unit that limited league opponents to a league-best three goals and posted eight shutouts. Bolen is a graduate of Urbana High School.

A native of Tinley Park, Illinois, Ribbens is making her second appearance on the All-MIAA first team. A graduate of Victor J. Andrew High School, Ribbens has eight goals, seven assists and 23 points on the year from her outside midfielder's position. A first-year forward, Prins leads the Knights in scoring with 25 points on the strength of 11 goals and three assists.

A midfielder, Scholten is making her second straight appearance on the All-MIAA second team. A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Unity Christian High School, Scholten has two goals, two assists and six points this year. She has also played a key role on Calvin's defense this year. She has also served as a tri-captain on a team that counts herself as the only senior on the roster.

Bergsma is from Walker and is a graduate of Grandville Calvin Christian High School. A goalkeeper, Bergsma has posted a goals-against-average of 1.22 and produced a won-loss record of 11-2-0. She is receiving All-MIAA second team honors for the first time.

A native of Palos Heights, Illinois, Ottenhoff is receiving All-MIAA second team accolades for the second straight year. A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Ottenhoff has six goals, one assist and 13 points on the year as a central midfielder. Of her six goals this year, three have been game-winners.

Calvin is currently 15-3-2 overall. Ranked 18th nationally, the Knights will face Capital University in a first round NCAA III Tournament game this evening at 5:00 p.m. in Springfield, Ohio.
