Men's Soccer Players Receive All-MIAA Honors;
Volleyball Players Receive Great Lakes All-Region Honors;
Kristen Kalb Receives ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Volleyball
Honors

MEN’S SOCCER

Seven members of the MIAA champion Calvin men's soccer team have received
All-MIAA honors including a Calvin record five players on the All-MIAA first
team. Named to the All-MIAA first team from Calvin are senior midfielder Nick
Capisciolto, junior midfielder A.J. Dufendach, sophomore striker Michael
Holwerda, sophomore sweeper back Greg Snapper and freshman striker Scott
Hooker.

Named to the All-MIAA second team from Calvin are sophomore stopper back Luke
Holtrop and junior goalkeeper Darrin Cline.

A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Unity Christian High School,
Capisciolto is receiving All-MIAA first team honors for the second time in his
career. Capisciolto has nine goals, six assists and 24 points on the year to
rank third on the Calvin team in scoring. Five of his nine goals this fall have
been game-winners. In conference play, he finished third in the MIAA scoring
race with 21 points, scoring eight goals and netting five assists. During the
final week of the regular season, he was named the MIAA Co-Offensive Player of
the Week.

Dufendach, Holwerda and Snapper are all receiving All-MIAA first team honors
for the first time. Dufendach is from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of Forest
Hills Northern High School. A central midfielder, Dufendach was the key to
Calvin's midfield play this year. He has two goals, two assists and six points
on the year and was named MIAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week once.

Holwerda is from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High
School. Holwerda is tied for the team lead in scoring with 25 points on the
strength of nine goals and seven assists. Of his nine goals, four have been
game-winners. In conference play, he scored six goals and was credited with six
assists to finish fourth in the final MIAA scoring race with 18 points.

A native of Madison, Wisconsin, and a graduate of Madison West High School,
Snapper has helped key a Calvin defense that has a season goals-against-average
of 0.84. In conference play, Calvin led the MIAA in scoring defense, allowing
only nine goals while posting eight shutout victories. During the year, Snapper
was named the MIAA co-Defensive Player of the Week once.

A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Unity Christian High School, Hooker
is tied with Holwerda for the team lead in scoring with 25 points as he has
nine goals and seven assists on the year. In conference play, he tied for
second with Capisciolto for goals scored with eight and also finished second in
the MIAA scoring race with 23 points. He also received MIAA Offensive Player of
the Week honors once during the year.

Like Capisciolto and Hooker, Holtrop is from Hudsonville and is a graduate of
Unity Christian High School.

Holtrop was a two-way threat for the Knights during the year, scoring four
goals and collecting two assists for a total of 10 points. His goal against
Hope on September 27 proved to be the game-winner in a 1-0 Calvin victory and
ignited what is currently a 14-game unbeaten streak for the Knights. Holtrop
also played a key role in Calvin's defensive effort this year and was named the
MIAA's Defensive Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season.

Cline meanwhile was the backbone of Calvin's defensive this year as he stepped
into a starter's role in goal. A native of Grandville and a graduate of
Grandville High School, Cline has posted six shutout victories this year and
has a won-loss record of 12-3-1 along with a season goals-against-average of
0.58 that ranks 21st in the latest NCAA III statistics. During the year, he was
named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week once.

VOLLEYBALL

A record four Calvin volleyball players have been named to the Great Lakes
All-Region team and all four are now eligible for NCAA III All-America
consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released next
Tuesday.

Named to the Great Lakes All-Region team from Calvin are seniors Molly Krikke,
Kristen Kalb and Katie Zondervan and junior Lauren DeGroot.

Krikke, Kalb and Zondervan are all receiving Great Lakes All-Region honors for
the second consecutive year while DeGroot is receiving the award for the first
time. DeGroot was an honorable mention Great Lakes All-Region choice last
year.

A native of Greenwich, Ohio, and a graduate of South Central High School,
Krikke is averaging 4.82 kills and 1.15 blocks-per-game while hitting at an
impressive .329 clip this year. Krikke was a two-time MIAA Player of the Week
this fall. She was recently named the Division III National Player of the Week
by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She also received
all-tournament honors at tournaments hosted by Capital, Wittenberg and Millikin
and was named the tournament MVP at Millikin.

Kalb is from Stow, Ohio. She is a graduate of Stow-Munroe Falls High School.
An outside hitter, Kalb is averaging 4.49 kills, 3.19 digs and 0.31 service
aces per-game. During the year, she was a two-time MIAA Player of the Week. She
was also named to the all-tournament team at the Wittenberg Border Battle. In
addition, Kalb is Calvin’s all-time career leader in kills with 1,906 kills.

A setter, Zondervan is from Lakewood, California. She is a graduate of Valley
Christian High School. Zondervan is among the nation's leaders in
assists-per-game average (13.78). During the season, she was a three-time MIAA
Specialty Player of the Week. She is Calvin’s all-time leader in total
assists (6,412) and assists-per-game average (13.73).

DeGroot is from Tulare, California. A libero, DeGroot is a graduate of Central
Valley Christian High School. DeGroot is averaging 5.68 digs-per-game from her
spot in the back row as Calvin's libero. During the fall, she was a two-time
MIAA Specialty Player of the Week.

Calvin captured the 2007 MIAA regular season title with a 15-1 conference
record. The Knights then claimed their fourth straight MIAA Tournament title
this past weekend. Now ranked 15th in the latest Division III Top-25 poll,
Calvin (29-4) will face 18th-ranked Wisconsin-LaCrosse in a first round NCAA
III Tournament match at 7:00 p.m. (EST) this evening in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Calvin will be participating in an eight-team regional hosted by Carthage
College. Tonight’s match will be broadcast via RealAudio through the Calvin

KRISTEN KALB RECEIVES ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

Calvin College senior Kristen Kalb has received ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District IV honors in volleyball in the college division. A native of Stow,
Ohio, and a graduate of Stow-Munroe Falls High School, Kalb has been named to
the All-District IV third team.

A pre-occupational therapy major, Kalb carries a 3.82 grade point average. At
Calvin, Kalb has been a four-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a
regular member of the Calvin Dean’s List.

On the volleyball court, she has been a two-time first team All-MIAA
selection, the MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2003, a two-time Great Lakes
All-Region selection and a first team Division III All-American in 2006. She is
also Calvin’s career leader in kills (1,906) heading into a first round NCAA
III Tournament match Thursday night against Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

Kalb is the third athlete from Calvin to receive ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District honors this fall as junior Juliana Litts and sophomore Natalie
Veurink were also so honored last month in women’s soccer.
