Calvin to Host Great Lakes Pre-Regional Cross Country Invitational Saturday;
Calvin Grad Qualifies for U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Calvin College is hosting the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Cross
Country meet for both men and women on November 10. As a precursor to the
regional meet, Calvin will host a pre-regional meet this Saturday. Teams
scheduled to compete include: Adrian College, Albion College, Alma College,
Anderson University, Calvin College, DePauw University; Kalamazoo College,
Kenyon College, Mount Union College, Oberlin College, Tri-State University;
Wabash College and the University of Windsor. The women's 6K race will begin at
11:00 a.m. with the men's race to follow at noon.
The Calvin men are currently ranked number-one in the latest Division III
Top-25 poll while the Calvin women are ranked number-two. The Mount Union
College men are ranked 23rd.

Several of the teams also carry regional rankings into Saturday's competition.
On the men's side, Calvin is ranked number one in the Great Lakes Region while
Mount Union is ranked third, Anderson sixth, DePauw eighth, Tri-State ninth and
Wabash 10th.

On the women's side, Calvin is ranked number-one while DePauw is ranked third,
Oberline fourth, Anderson eighth and Kenyon ninth.

The four-year old course (men's 8K and women's 6K) is located one mile east of
the main campus and borders East Paris Road on east side and Calvin’s Nature
Preserve on the north. The Start and Finish are located on the Gainey Athletic
Soccer Fields. The course features 10 meter wide paths cut through the Calvin
property north and west of the Gainey Athletic Complex, wide sweeping turns, a
long straight away parallel to the service road, beautiful tree-lined trails, a
brief segment that runs through the Gainey Baseball fields and a finish just
west of the start near the soccer stadium bleachers. The elevation gains are
smooth and gradual except for one steep up and down (run twice) on the north
side of the course. The course crosses the service road 4 times for the 6K and
6 times in the 8K. Other footing is very good (for two-year growth). All miles
and kilometers are marked.
