JIM DETERS UPDATE
KINSTON, NC -- In the opener of a first-round playoff series, 2005 Calvin College graduate Jim Deters was unable to parlay his regular season success into a post-season victory as the 6-4 righthander suffered the defeat in a 10-3 loss to the Salem Avalanche Wednesday night. The game was the first of a best-of-three series.
During the Carolina League regular season, Deters was 12-4 for the Kinston Indians, a Advanced Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Deters also posted a 2.24 earned run average as he led his club in victories and earned run average.
In Wednesday's game against the Avalanche however, Deters was touched up for five runs and eight hits in four innings of work. All five runs were earned. Deters did strike out five batters but walked an uncharacteristic three batters. During the regular season, Deters walked just 21 batters in 112.1 innings of work. With the loss, Kinston faces elimination and must win game two Thursday night at Kinston's Grainger Stadium.
