Lisa Winkle Named a Finalist for WBCA/Kodak All-America Consideration;
Women’s Swim Team Has Strong Prelim Performances at National Meet
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Calvin College senior Lisa Winkle has been named one of 40 finalists for the
10-team Division III Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Kodak All-America
team in women’s basketball.
WBCA CEO Beth Bass will announce the Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team at
the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Banquet on Thursday, March 15, 2007,
at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids South Christian High
School, Winkle is one of five players from her region to be named a finalist.
Other finalist from the region include Liz Bondi of DePauw, Kelly Peters &
Katie Streck of Wilmington and Kristen Sheffield of Denison.
Heading into an NCAA III Sectional Tournament this weekend at Emmanuel College
(MA), Winkle is averaging 14.1 points and 10.0 rebounds a game. Earlier this
year, she became Calvin’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder. Heading into
the weekend, she has career totals of 1,684 points and 1,009 rebounds.
Earlier this week, she was named the recipient of the prestigious Jostens
Trophy in women’s basketball.
Calvin (27-2) will open the NCAA III Sectionals on Friday night at 5:30 p.m.
against the University of Southern Maine (27-2). Friday’s game can be heard

WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING
HOUSTON, TX - The Calvin women’s swim team had a strong set of performances
during the preliminaries of Thursday’s NCAA III Championships competition.
Calvin’s 200 freestyle relay team of senior Becky Weima (Grand Rapids
Christian HS), freshman Katie White (Grand Rapids Christian HS), sophomore Cara
VanWoerkom (Calvin Christian HS) and junior Kat Vinson (Kaneohe, HI) advanced
to Thursday night’s finals with the second-best time of the morning, clocking
in with a time of 1:34.72, just two-tenths of a second behind Kenyon’s
top-seeded team.
In the 50 freestyle, Weima and White both advanced to the finals on Thursday
night with Weima clocking the second-best time of the morning in 23.59 while
White had the seventh-best time of the morning in 23.98. Vinson just missed a
spot in the consolation finals, finishing 18th with a time of 24.30. She is
listed as the second alternate for Thursday’s consolation finals.
Calvin’s 400 medley relay team of sophomore Jordan Scott (Oakville, ON),
senior Alex Wilson (Ellsowrth, OH), sophomore Julie Wolfe (Westerville, OH) and
Weima also advanced to the consolation finals with a time of 3:57.87. The time
was the 10th-best of the morning preliminaries.
Wilson and freshman Emily Roberts (DeKalb, IL) also competed in the 200 IM but
did not advance to the finals. Wilson had a time of 2:11.10 while Roberts had a
career-best time of 2:10.90.
Junior Stephanie Duncan (Long Grove, IL) also competed in the 500 freestyle,
placing 35th with a time of 5:15.08 in the morning prelims and will not advance
to Thursday night’s finals.
Also competing for Calvin on Thursday in the one-meter diving competition are
sophomore Erica Deur (Holland Christian HS) and freshman Casey Herman
(Libertyville, IL).
