Lisa Winkle Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American

GRAND RAPIDS - Calvin College senior Lisa Winkle has been named a first team
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American® in women's basketball. Winkle has been
so honored in the college division which includes schools from the NCAA II,
NCAA III and NAIA ranks.

A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids South Christian High
school, Winkle is receiving the lofty award for the second consecutive year as
she was named a second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in 2006 in
women's basketball.

A four-year starter on the Calvin women's basketball team, Winkle is averaging
13.9 points and 9.7 rebounds a game while connecting on 58.8 percent of her
field goal attempts. She is currently ranked eighth nationally in field goal
percentage.

During the 2006-07 season, Winkle has been in double-figures in scoring in 22
of a possible 27 games and has posted 14 double-double performances. She has 44
double-double efforts in her career and has notched double-digits in scoring in
98 of a possible 112 games in her career.

Earlier this year, Winkle became Calvin's career leader in both points and
rebounds. Winkle currently has 1,647 points and 983 rebounds in her career.

Winkle's efforts this year have helped Calvin build an overall record of 25-2
and gain an at-large bid to the NCAA III Tournament. The Knights have been
ranked as high as number-two in Division III basketball this season, marking
Calvin's highest national ranking in women's basketball. Calvin also captured
its 11th MIAA regular season title this winter, finishing 16-0 in league play.

Off the court, Winkle carries a 3.96 grade point average while majoring in
mathematics and secondary education. She a seven-time member of the Calvin
Dean's List and a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. In 2005,
she was named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Academic
All-State College Team.

Ranked 7th in the latest D3hoops.com poll , the Calvin women's basketball is
scheduled to open NCAA III Tournament play in a first round game on Friday at
5:30 p.m. (EST) in a first-round game against Thomas More of Kentucky (22-4).
The game will be part of a four-team regional hosted by Wilmington College
(OH).

Winkle is one of two women's basketball players from the MIAA to receive ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-America honors this year as Olivet senior Stephanie
Smith has been named a second team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American.

The Academic All-America ® Teams program honors 816 male and female
student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the
playing and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by
CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America; a 2,000-member
organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges
and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve,
maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have
reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current
institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the
program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on
more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all
NCAA championship sports.
