CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 21, 2007 (PART TWO)

ALL-MIAA SWIMMING AND DIVING HONORS ANNOUNCED

The All-MIAA men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have been announced and eight members of the Calvin women’s team have received All-MIAA honors while two members of the Calvin men’s team have been so honored.

On the women’s side, Calvin seniors Becky Weima and Alex Wilson have been named to the All-MIAA team for the fourth consecutive year. Weima and Wilson are the seventh and eighth members of the Calvin women’s swimming and diving program to have received All-MIAA honors four straight years.

Weima has also been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Swimmer for the fourth straight year while sophomore Erica Deur has been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Diver for the second straight year. Deur was also named to the All-MIAA team along with Calvin teammates Stephanie Duncan, Barbara (Frazier) Gluvers, Emily Roberts, junior Kat Vinson and freshman Katie White.

Weima is from Caledonia and is a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School. At the recent MIAA Championships, she captured league titles in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle events.

Wilson is from Ellsworth, Ohio. She is a graduate of Western Reserve High School. At the MIAA Championships, she captured titles in the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke and took second in the 400 IM.

A junior, Duncan is from Long Grove, Illinois. She is a graduate of Adlai Stevenson High School and is making her third straight appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Championships, Duncan took second in the 200 freestyle, third in the 500 freestyle and seventh in the 100 freestyle.

A junior from Kaneohe, Hawaii, Vinson is a graduate of Punahou High School. She is also making her third straight appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Championships, Vinson took second in the 50 freestyle and third in both the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

A senior, Gluvers is from Placerville, California and is a graduate of St. Francis High School. She is making her second straight appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Championships, Gluvers took third in the 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 200 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 IM.

A sophomore from Holland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School, Deur is also making her second straight appearance on the All-MIAA team. Deur captured titles on both the one and three-meter diving boards at the recent MIAA Championships.

A freshman, Roberts is from DeKalb, Illinois and is a graduate of DeKalb High School. At the MIAA Championships, Roberts took second in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke and third in the 200 IM.

Also a freshman, White is from Leland and is a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School. At the MIAA Championships, she captured league titles in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and took second in the 100 freestyle.

On the men’s side, Calvin senior Andrew Resseguie and junior John Boumgarden have been named to the All-MIAA team.

Resseguie is from Holland and is a graduate of Holland Christian High School. At the MIAA Championships, Resseguie captured league titles in the 50 and 100 freestyle events while also placing fifth in the 200 freestyle. Resseguie is making his second straight appearance on the All-MIAA team.

A native of Naperville, Illinois and a graduate of Naperville North High School, Boumgarden is also making his second straight appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Championships, Boumgarden took second in the 100 butterfly and third in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

At the MIAA Championships, the Calvin women’s swimming and diving team took first place with 675.5 points * the second-highest point total in MIAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships history. The Calvin men’s swimming and diving team took fourth place with 300.5 points.
