Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Weekend in Review

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Calvin men's and women's swimming teams were in action over the weekend,
hosting Grand Valley State on Friday and Kalamazoo on Saturday. The following
is a recap of the weekend action.
CALVIN WOMEN 134, GVSU WOMEN 109
GVSU MEN 179, CALVIN MEN 62
The Calvin women's swimming and diving team picked up its second victory of the
2006-07 season over Division II Grand Valley State on Friday night, handing the
Lakers a 134-109 dual meet defeat.
Senior Becky Weima was a double-winner to lead the Knights, taking first place
in the 50 freestyle (24.77) and 500 freestyle (5:11.24). Weima also swam on
Calvin's winning 400 medley relay team that clocked in with a time of 4:06.18.
She was joined on the relay by sophomore Jordan Scott (Oakville, ON), freshman
Emily Roberts (Dekalb, IL) and freshman Katie White (Grand Rapids Christian
HS).
Roberts added a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.02) while White claimed the
100 freestyle in a season-best time of 54.24. White was also second in the 100
breaststroke in 1:09.49.
Other individual winners for Calvin included freshman Laura Price (Warren, PA)
in the 200 freestyle (2:00.19) and sophomore Erica Deur (Holland Christian HS)
on the one-meter diving board (247.95). Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of
sophomore Julie Wolfe (Westerville, OH), sophomore Cara VanWoerkom (Calvin
Christian HS), junior Stephanie Duncan (Long Grove, IL) and junior Kat Vinson
(Kaneohe, HI) also took first place in a time of 3:38.14.
On the men's side, Calvin suffered a 179-62 defeat to the Lakers but still came
up with several strong performances. Junior John Boumgarden (Naperville, IL)
was Calvin's lone winner, taking first place in the 50 freestyle (22.58) while
taking second in the 100 butterfly (54.11). Senior Peter Tuuk (Grand Rapids
Christian HS) also had a strong swim in the 1,000 freestyle, taking second with
a season-best time of 10:30.54. Sophomore Keith Conrad (Wheaton, IL) also had a
good swim in the 500 freestyle, taking second with a time of 5:03.44.

KALAMAZOO MEN 150, CALVIN MEN 144
The Calvin women's swimming and diving team improved to 10-1 in dual meet
competition, handing visiting Kalamazoo a 158-123 defeat Saturday afternoon at
Calvin's Bergsma Natatorium. Calvin took first place in nine events including
eight individual events.
Individual winners for the Calvin women included Becky Weima in the 200
freestyle (1:54.95), Jordan Scott in the 100 backstroke (1:04.05), Emily
Roberts in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.44), Katie White in the 50 freestyle
(25.38), Erica Deur on the one-meter diving board (246.75), Stephanie Duncan in
the 100 freestyle (55.35), freshman Jo VanderLinde (Grand Rapids Christian HS)
in the 200 backstroke (2:19.86) and senior Alex Wilson (Ellsworth, OH) in the
200 breaststroke (2:30.97). Calvin's 200 medley relay team of Scott, Roberts,
Julie Wolfe and White took first place in a time of 1:52.06.
On the men's side, Calvin suffered a tough 150-144 defeat to Kalamazoo. Calvin
did take first place in nine events with three individuals finishing the
afternoon as double-winners. Double-winners for Calvin included senior Peter
Tuuk in the 200 freestyle (1:47.56) and 500 freestyle (4:59.20); sophomore
Jordan Squires (Onsted/Lenawee Christian HS) on the one-meter (201.25) and
three-meter diving boards (163.80) and senior Andrew Resseguie in the 50
freestyle (21.47) and 100 freestyle (48.63). The time by Resseguie in the 50
freestyle was a season-best while the score by Squires on the one-meter board
was also a season-best.
Other individual winners for Calvin included sophomore Keith Conrad in the
1,000 freestyhle (10:12.60) and John Boumgarden in the 100 butterfly (53.71).
Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of Boumgarden, freshman Kurt VanAllsburg
(Grand Rapids Christian HS), senior Matt Herrema (Grand Rapids Christian HS)
and Andrew Resseguie also took first place in a time of 3:15.86.
The Calvin women's team returns to action on Friday when it travels to Saint
Mary's for a 6:00 p.m. MIAA dual meet. On Saturday, both Calvin teams will host
Albion in MIAA dual meets at 1:00 p.m.
