Calvin Volleyball Players Receive Great Lakes All-Region Honors

A record four members of the Calvin women’s volleyball team have been named to the Division III Great Lakes All-Region team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Receiving All-Region honors from Calvin are seniors Kristen Kalb and Lorilyn Vogel and juniors Molly Krikke and Katie Zondervan. All four individuals are now eligible for All-America recognition. All four players are also receiving Great Lakes All-Region honors for the first time.

In addition, sophomore libero Lauren DeGroot has received Great Lakes All-Region honorable mention recognition.

An outside hitter with junior eligibility, Kalb is from Stow, Ohio, and is a graduate of Munroe Falls High School. Kalb was recently named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player. She has amassed a team-leading 434 kills this year and is averaging 4.13 kills-per-game, 3.68 digs-per-game and 0.60 service aces-per-game. She also has an attack percentage of .259.

Vogel is also an outside hitter. She hails from Orange City, Iowa, and is a graduate of Unity (IA) Christian High School. Vogel carries an attack percentage of .282 on the year and is averaging 3.49 kills and 1.04 digs-per-game.

Krikke is from Greenwich, Ohio. She is a graduate of South Central High School. A middle-hitter, Krikke has amassed 420 kills for an average of 3.96 kills-per-game. She is also averaging 1.14 blocks-per-game and has 41 service aces on the season.

Zondervan is from Lakewood, California. She is a graduate of Valley Christian High School. A setter, Zondervan is averaging 14.11 assists-per-game and is currently ranked second nationally in that category. Zondervan is also averaging 3.55 digs-per-game and has 19 service aces to her credit this year.

DeGroot is from Tulare, California. She is a graduate of Central Valley Christian High School. DeGroot has served as Calvin’s libero for the second straight year and has produced a team-leading 658 digs for an average of 6.09 digs-per-game. She is also second on the Calvin team in service aces with 49.

Calvin is currently ranked 11th in the latest Division III Top-25 poll conducted by the AVCA. The Knights are 32-1 overall and are preparing to host an eight-team NCAA Division III Regional this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Calvin will open tournament play Thursday night by hosting Nazareth College (NY) in a first round match set to start at 8:30 p.m.
