CALVIN SPORTS REPORT (Part Three) FOR NOV. 6, 2006

Two members of the Calvin women's volleyball team have received MIAA Player of the Week honors in leading the Knights to their third consecutive MIAA Tournament title this past weekend. Ranked 12th in the latest Division III Top-25 poll, Calvin (32-1) is preparing to host an eight-team, three-day NCAA III Regional tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Here is information on Calvin's MIAA Player of the Week honorees.

MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Senior outside hitter Kristen Kalb (Stow, OH/Munroe Falls HS) * Kalb helped lead Calvin to its third consecutive MIAA Tournament title this past week, averaging 5.45 kills, 3.82 digs and one service ace per game in three MIAA Tournament matches. In the MIAA Tournament Championship final, Kalb had a match-high 24 kills along with 15 digs. Kalb is receiving MIAA Player of the Week honors for the third time in her career.

MIAA SPECIALTY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Freshman defensive specialist Kelsey Sears (Traverse City/Traverse City West HS) averaged 3.45 digs-per-game in Calvin’s run through the MIAA Tournament last week. In the MIAA Tournament final, Sears tallied 16 digs and added one service ace. Sears is receiving MIAA Specialty Player of the Week honors for the first time.
