CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 6, 2006

GRAND RAPIDS - The Calvin women's women's volleyball and women's soccer teams will get to stay home this week as both teams have been selected to host NCAA III Tournament competition.

In volleyball, Calvin will host an eight-team, three-day regional scheduled for November 9, 10 and 11. Thursday competition has Hope (24-9) facing Ohio Northern (27-8) at 1:00 p.m.; the College of Mount St. Joseph (27-11) facing Hiram (32-3) at 3:30 p.m.; Brockport State of New York (27-9) facing Wittenberg (31-7) at 6:00 p.m. and Nazareth of New York (17-20) facing Calvin (32-1) at 8:30 p.m. On Friday, the Brockport State/Wittenberg winner will meet the Mount St. Joseph/Hiram winner at 4:30 p.m. while the Hope/Ohio Northern winner will meet the Calvin/Nazareth winner at 7:00 p.m. Friday's semifinal winners will then meet on Saturday in the regional final at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices are: $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and $2.00 for children ages 2-12. Children under the age of two are admitted free.

The Calvin women’s volleyball team will be making its 16th trip to the NCAA III Tournament including its third straight. The Knights are 16-17 in NCAA III Tournament competition including a second place finish in 1986 and fourth place finishes in 1984 and 1992.

Meanwhile, the Calvin women's soccer team received a first round bye and will host a second round game on Saturday at a time yet to be determined. Calvin (20-0-0) will host a second round game against the winner of a Wednesday first round match between Capital (11-7-4) and Kenyon (13-5-0). Ticket prices for Saturday's game have not yet been announced.

Calvin will be making its fourth trip to the NCAA III Tournament including its second straight. The Knights are 1-2-1 in NCAA III Tournament competition. A year ago, Calvin bowed out of the tournament in the first round after tying Ohio Wesleyan and the losing a shootout.
