Women’s Soccer Holds On for Win at Adrian

ADRIAN * A crucial conference game this afternoon between at Adrian College proved to be a fairly even match-up, as Adrian (5-8-0, 2-2-0 MIAA) held Calvin to only one goal. Improving to impressive 13-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 MIAA records, the Knights were able to shave by with the 1-0 win.
The winning goal was the team-leading 11th on the year for senior Jill Capel (Hudsonville/Unity Christian). Capel scored in the 35th minute of play off of an assist from senior Leah Scholten (Hudsonville/Unity Christian).
Calvin had nine total shots with four shots on goal, while Adrian shot five times with two on goal. Though Calvin had nine corner kick opportunities, it was not able to convert one into a goal.
Goal keeper freshman Alyssa Bergsma (Walker/Calvin Christian) had two saves in the game, helping in the shutout, which was Calvin’s ninth shut-out victory of the season. In addition, Calvin has not yet allowed a goal in conference play.
The Knights now head into a challenging string of games, hosting conference opponent Alma on Tuesday and non-conference opponent Chicago, who is nationally-ranked. Next Saturday, Calvin will travel to play another conference game at St. Mary’s.
