JIM DETERS PICKS UP WIN #11 FOR LAKE COUNTY CAPTAINS
EASTLAKE, OH – 2005 Calvin College graduate Jim Deters picked up his 11th victory of the season including his sixth victory in his last nine outings on Saturday night in leading the Lake County Captains to an 11-1 triumph over the visiting Lakewood Blue Claws.
Heading into Saturday’s game, the league-leading South Atlantic League Blue Claws boasted an overall record of 42-19 in the second half of the season and had battered the Lake County pitching staff for 13 runs and 20 hits the night before.
Deters was able to scatter five hits over six innings of work on Saturday night however, while striking out four and walking three. The only run allowed by Deters came in the top of the fourth inning as he lowered his season earned run average to 3.25. Deters was aided by a Lake County offensive attack that rapped off 13 hits and broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth and then added two in the sixth, five in the seventh and one in the eighth.
Also a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Deters continues to lead Lake County in games started (27), innings pitched (160.2) and strikeouts (104). He has also walked only 29 batters on the year.
With nine games left to play, Lake County is 33-27 in the second half of the South Atlantic League season. Deters is likely to receive one more start for the Captains prior to the completion of the season.
The Lake County Captains are a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. For more on Deters and the Lake County Captains, please visit the team web site at: http://www.captainsbaseball.com
