WOMEN'S TENNIS

HOLLAND - Under the direction of head coach Jerry Bergsma, the Calvin women's tennis team completed a record-setting weekend at the MIAA Tournament hosted by Hope College as the Knights took second at the two-day tournament with 93 points. The point total is the highest by a Calvin women's tennis team at the MIAA Tournament. The second place tournament finish also allowed Calvin to finish in sole possession of second place in the final MIAA standings, marking its highest conference finish since the 2000 season when it tied for second.

Albion took first place at the MIAA Tournament with 109 points and also took first place in the final overall MIAA standings.

Calvin had two individuals claim individual singles titles on Saturday as junior Kari Lipinski (Northpointe Christian HS) took the title at No. 4 singles while senior Kim Bosscher (Calvin Christian HS) took the title at No. 6 singles. The league crowns were the first for both Lipinski and Bosscher. In fact, it marked the first time that a Calvin singles player has claimed a league crown in more than 10 years.

Bosscher finished the year with a singles record of 19-2 while Lipinski finished with a season singles record of 16-5.

Junior Allyson Logan (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran HS) also had a strong singles performance, taking runner-up honors at No. 5 singles. Logan finished the year with a singles record of 16-7. Calvin also received a fourth place finish from senior Amy Zeilstra (Oak Brook, IL/Timothy Christian HS) at No. 1 singles and a third place finish from senior Annie Huizenga (Unity Christian HS) at No. 3 singles.

In doubles, Calvin's No. 1 doubles team of Zeilstra and sophomore Emily Oosterhouse (Grand Rapids Christian HS) took fourth while its No. 2 doubles team of Huizeng and Lipinski took second. In addition, Calvin's No. 3 doubles team of Logan and Bosscher took runner-up honors.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Zeilstra was named to the All-MIAA first team for the third straight year while Huizenga was named to the All-MIAA second team for the first time.
