NCAA III WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY TWO REPORT (Prelims)

MINNEAPOLIS, MN * Calvin advanced an individual and a relay into Friday night competition during the prelims of Friday's NCAA III Championship competition.

Fresh off her national championship in the 50 freestyle the night before, Calvin junior Becky Weima of Grand Rapids Christian High School gained the top seed for the 200 freestyle Friday night, clocking in with a school-record time of 1:49.47, breaking her previous school record of 1:49.65. Weima is the defending national champion in the 200 freestyle. Her time in Friday's prelims was more than two seconds faster than her nearest competitor.

Calvin also advanced its 200 medley relay team into Friday's consolation finals as the Calvin quartet of freshman Jordan Scott (Oakville, ON), junior Alex Wilson (Ellsworth, OH), senior Abby Johnson (Grand Haven HS) and sophomore Kat Vinson (Kaneohe, HI) took 15th in the morning prelims with a time of 1:50.35.

Wilson also competed in the 100 breaststroke Friday morning but did not advance to evening competition, finishing 20th with a time of 1:07.82.

Calvin freshman Erica Deur (Holland Christian HS) is currently competing in the three-meter diving prelims. Deur was the national runner-up on the one-meter board Thursday with a score of 439.25. Annie Cullen of Concordia University finished ahead of Deur for the national title with a national-record score of 455.20. Deur's final total also surpassed the previous national record of 438.35 set by Beth Olsen of Colorado College in 1987.

Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team of Vinson, junior Liz Ingebrigtsen (Bensenville, IL), sophomore Stephanie Duncan (Long Grove, IL) and Weima is also scheduled to compete tonight. The relay is seeded sixth.

Calvin is currently in fourth place in the team standings with 87 points.
