WOMEN'S SOCCER - CAPEL NAMED TO GREAT LAKES ALL-REGION THIRD TEAM

GRAND RAPIDS - Calvin College junior midfielder Jill Capel has been named to
the Division III Great Lakes All-Region third team by the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America.

A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Unity Christian High School, Capel
is receiving all-region accolades for the first time in her career.

This past fall, Capel scored 21 goals and notched 13 assists to finish with a
team-leading total of 55 points.

Of her 21 goals, five were game-winners. Capel also had six multiple-goal
games this fall including a two-goal effort in a 2-2 double-overtime tie
against nationally-ranked Ohio Wesleyan in the first round of the NCAA III
Tournament November 11.

Last month, Capel was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player and was named to
the All-MIAA first team for the third straight year. She was also a catalyst
in a Calvin offensive unit that recorded a Calvin single-season record total of
88 goals.

Heading into her senior year, Capel is third on the Calvin career list in
goals (60) and points (157) and fourth in assists (36).

Capel served as a co-captain on a Calvin women's soccer team that finished
16-3-2 this past fall and captured a share of its first MIAA title since 1997
with a 15-1-0 conference mark. She also helped the Knights earn a bid to the
NCAA III Tournament for the first time since 1998. Calvin bowed out of the
tournament in the first round as Ohio Wesleyan advanced in the first-round
match with the Knights in a penalty kick shootout.
