CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR JUNE 25, 2005

PROFESSIONAL DEBUT A SUCCESS FOR JIM DETERS

AUBURN, NY - The professional baseball debut of 2005 Calvin graduate Jim
Deters proved to be an unqualified success. A native of Portage, Deters got
the start for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers Friday night against the Auburn
Doubledays (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) and did not disappoint as he tossed
3.1 innings of shutout ball. Pitching on a strict pitch count, Deters struck
out two batters, walked one and allowed two hits in his starting stint.

The performance by Deters helped the Scrappers (2-2) gain a 7-6 road victory
to even their season record at 2-2. Deters was not credited with the pitching
victory as teammate Justin Pekarek picked up the win in relief.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are a Class A short-season league affiliate of
the Cleveland Indians located in Youngstown, Ohio. The Scrappers compete in
the New York-Penn League. For more on the Scrappers, please visit their web
