CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MARCH 10, 2005

WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

HOLLAND -- The first day of competition at the NCAA III Swimming and Diving
Championships brought three school records and one national runner-up finish to
the Calvin women's swim team.

After one day of competition at the Holland Aquatic Center - site of this
year's national meet - Calvin is also in 11th place with 41 points.

Sophomore Becky Weima of Grand Rapids Christian High School played a role in
all three school records on Thursday as she shattered her own school records in
the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Weima established both of her records in
the morning prelims as she led off Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team with a
leadoff leg split of 23.53, breaking her previous school record of 23.85 in the
50 freestyle. Weima later helped Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team that also
included freshman Stephanie Duncan (Long Grove, IL), sophomore Liz Ingebrigtsen
(Bensenville, IL) and freshman Kat Vinson (Kaneohe, HI)to an 11th place finish
in the consolation finals with a time of 1:37.75. The finish also brough the
group honorable mention All-America honors.

Weima also delivered the first sub five-minute performance of her career in the
500 freestyle prelims as she clocked in with the second-best time of the
morning in 4:58.47, breaking her previous school mark of 5:00.41. Weima then
claimed national runner-up honors in the event in the evening finals as she
recorded a second place time of 4:59.27. The finish was a four-spot
improvement over her sixth place finish in the event at the 2004 national meet.
It also marks the fourth individual NCAA III All-America performance of her
collegiate career.

Calvin's 400 medley relay team of junior Abby Johnson (Grand Haven HS),
sophomore Alex Wilson (Ellsworth, OH), Weima and Vinson then posted an
honorable mention All-America effort as the quartet took 11th with a school
record time of 3:58.37, breaking the previous record by nearly a half-second.

Also competing in Thursday's prelims were Johnson in the 200 IM, Vinson in the
50 freestyle and Duncan in the 500 freestyle. Johnson posted the 25th best
time in the 200 IM (2:11.33), Vinson the 37th-best time in the 50 freestyle
(25.02) and Duncan the 33rd-best time in the 500 freestyle (5:32.67).

"I'm very pleased with our start," said Calvin women's swim coach Dan
Gelderloos of his seven-member contingent representing Calvin at the national
meet. "We don't have a single senior competing at this meet and five of our
swimmers are here for the first time so we've been battling some nervousness.
At the same time, I think they handled the pressure well and put on a good
show."

Gelderloos had particular words of praise for Weima. "She had a spectucular
day," said Gelderloos. "Her first two swims were school records. There isn't
much more you can ask than that. I'm very proud of her and so are her
teammates. She's a very gracious individual and her teammates have a great
amount of respect and admiration for her because of that."

Weima is scheduled to compete on Friday in the 200 freestyle where she is the
meet's top seed.

Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team is also scheduled to compete on Friday. The
relay is seeded fourth.
