MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The All-MIAA men's and women's basketball teams have been announced and four Calvin players have been so honored.
On the men's side, Calvin senior Dan Aultman has been named to the All-MIAA first team while senior Ricky Shilts has been named to the second team.
It marks the second straight year that Aultman has been named to the All-MIAA first team. A native of Ludington and a graduate of Mason County Central High School, Aultman finished fourth in the MIAA scoring race (16.1), fourth in free throw percentage (.838) and eighth in rebounding (6.0). In addition, he was named MIAA Player of the Week twice this year.
Shilts is from Kalamazoo and is a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. A point guard, Shilts finished second in the MIAA in free throw shooting with an 85.7 percent clip. He was also ranked ninth in assists per game (3.0) and three-point field goal percentage (.407).
In addition, seniors Josh Vriesman and Brad Sall received honorable mention recognition from the MIAA coaches. Vriesman is from Denver, Colorado. Sall is from Hudsonville and is a Unity Christian High School graduate.
On the women's side, senior Kristen McDonald and sophomore Lisa Winkle were both named to the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year.
McDonald is from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of West Catholic High School. A point guard, she led the MIAA in assists per game (7.1) and steals per game (2.8) and was seventh in the MIAA in free throw percentage (.789), and 10th in scoring average (11.5). During the year, she was named MIAA Player of the Week twice. In last week's MIAA Tournament, McDonald established new MIAA Tournament single-game records for points (40) and assists (11).
Winkle is also from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of South Christian High School. A power forward, Winkle led the MIAA in rebounding (8.2) and blocked shots per game (2.12), was second in field goal percentage (.614) and third in scoring average (15.8).
Also receiving honorable mention recognition from the MIAA coaches were senior Lisa Nanninga and junior Sarah Winkle. Nanninga is from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School. Winkle is from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of South Christian High School.
MORE MEN'S/WOMEN'S NCAA III TOURNAMENT BASKETBALL INFORMATION
The Calvin women's basketball team will be making its ninth appearance in the NCAA III Tournament when it plays host to Franklin College of Indiana Wednesday night at the Calvin Fieldhouse. Wednesday's game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. with tickets available at the door beginning at 6:00 p.m. Pricing is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, students, and children over 5. There are no discounts for those with Calvin ID's for the NCAA tournament.
Calvin (22-4) will enter Wednesday's game with Franklin (23-5) with an eight-game win streak. Franklin has won its last nine games. Both teams gained bids to the NCAA III Tournament by winning their respective conference tournaments last Saturday. Calvin defeated Albion 60-47 in the MIAA Tournament championship game while Franklin defeated Transylvania University 62-50 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship game.
Calvin is led by the one-two punch of senior point guard Kristen McDonald and sophomore forward Lisa Winkle. McDonald averages 14.4 points and 6.2 assists per game. Winkle is averaging 15.9 points and 8.1 rebounds a game along with a 60.8 percent field goal clip.
Franklin is led by 5-9 junior guard Lindsey Roberson and 5-10 junior forward Becky Ballard. Roberson is averaging 16.3 points and 5.3 rebounds a game. Ballard is averaging 15.1 points and 7.1 rebounds a game.

The Calvin men's basketball team will be making its 15th trip to the NCAA III Tournament when it travels to non-conference rival Wheaton College of Illinois Thursday night for a first round game scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. (EST). Thursday's game will be the 46th meeting between the two teams in a series that dates back to the 1949-50 season and sees Wheaton holding a 24-21 series lead. The two teams have never met in the NCAA III Tournament however. Calvin and Wheaton also met earlier this year with Wheaton prevailing 91-87 in overtime in a first round game of the CCIW/MIAA Classic held December 3, at Wheaton's King Arena.
Calvin (22-6) will enter Thursday's game with a four-game win streak. The Knights advanced to the NCAA III Tournament by winning the MIAA Tournament title last Saturday night as it upset sixth-ranked and top-seeded Albion 63-59 on its home court. Wheaton (20-5) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA III Tournament. The Thunder finished as the runner-up in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin this year with a 10-4 conference record.
Calvin features a balanced scoring attack as four players are averaging better than nine points a game. Senior forward Dan Aultman leads the way averages of 15.9 points and 5.8 rebounds a game while junior forward Andy Draayer is averaging 11.8 points a game off the bench while connecting on 47.3 percent of his three-point field goal attempts. In Calvin's overtime loss at Wheaton December 3, Draayer connected on eight three-pointers on 12 attempts.
Wheaton led the CCIW this year in scoring average (80.8 ppg) and has four players that average double-digits in scoring. Freshman guard Kent Raymond is the leading scorer at 15.6 points a game and was recently named to the All-CCIW second team. Next on the Wheaton scoring list is 6-5 senior forward Jonathan Steven who averages 15.4 points a game. Steven was named to the All-CCIW third team. Named to the All-CCIW first team from Wheaton was senior point guard Jon Nielson who averages 11.9 points a game. Senior Martin Triemiew is another player to watch for the Thunder as the 6-3 forward averages 10.7 points a game.
A limited number of tickets for this game are currently on sale at the Calvin Box Office and will remain on sale while supplies last until Wednesday, March 2nd at 5pm. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students,seniors and children. Children two-years-old and younger will be admitted free.

CALVIN BASKETBALL TEAMS NATIONALLY-RANKED
The D3hoops.com Top-25 polls for men's and women's basketball have been released and both Calvin teams are in the top-25. It marks the first time since the 1999-2000 season when both Calvin basketball teams were nationally-ranked at the same time.
The Calvin men's basketball team is ranked 14th in this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, up three spots from last week. The Calvin women's basketball team is ranked 22nd in this week's poll and is one of three MIAA teams to be nationally-ranked as Albion is ranked 20th and Hope 23rd.
On the men's side, Calvin is one of two nationally-ranked teams from the MIAA as Albion is ranked ninth. In addition, Calvin's Thursday night opponent * Wheaton College (IL) * is ranked 11th.
