Calvin Teams Receive MIAA Team GPA Award

GRAND RAPIDS, MI * Three Calvin College athletics teams have received the MIAA Team GPA Award. The award, presented by the Faculty Athletic Representatives of the MIAA member colleges recognizes conference athletic teams who achieved a 3.3 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the entire 2003-04 academic year.

This is the sixth year the award has been presented.

Calvin had three women's teams honored. Calvin teams receiving the award include the women's track and field team, women's cross country team and women's golf team.

Calvin's highest ranked team is its women's track and field team which posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.39 to rank 26th among the 45 teams honored among the MIAA member colleges. It marks the fourth straight year that the Calvin women's track and field has received the award. The Calvin women's track and field team was led this year by head coach Jong-Il Kim.

Honored for the sixth consecutive year is the Calvin women's cross country team. Under the direction of head coach Nancy Meyer, the women's cross country team compiled a team GPA of 3.37. The women's cross country team is one of eight MIAA teams to have received the award every year since the award was initiated in 1998-99.

Led by head coach Jerry Bergsma, the Calvin women's tennis team is receiving the award for the first time. The women's tennis team finished a team GPA of 3.32.

The Adrian women's tennis team led the 45-team list with a cumulative team GPA of 3.61.
