            Calvin repeats as NCAA III men's basketball attendance champion

    GRAND RAPIDS, MI - For the 12th time in the last 17 years and for the 13th time
    in school history, Calvin has finished as the NCAA Division III leader in
    men's basketball attendance. Calvin gained the top spot for the third
    straight year as the Division III attendance leader with 2,893 spectators per
    game, after winning the 2001 title with an average of 3,369 fans per game. MIAA
    rival Hope finished second at 2,205 while Illinois Wesleyan was third with an
    average of 2,081 and NCAA III national champion Otterbein (OH) fourth with an
    average of 2,050.

    Calvin's 2001-2002 average was strengthened by three crowds that topped the
    4,000-fan plateau including a sell-out crowd of 4,500 fans against Hope February
    13. Calvin also topped 4,000 fans in its homecoming game against Albion
    February 9, when it brought in a crowd of 4,004 and in the MIAA Tournament
    Championship game against Hope February 24, when it brought in 4, 389 fans.
    Overall, Calvin brought in 37, 613 fans in 13 home dates.
     
    In addition, Calvin and Hope helped the seven-team Michigan Intercollegiate
    Athletic Association to top all Division III conferences for an 11th straight
    year with an average of 1,244 fans a game up 81 fans per game from its 2000-2001
    average of 1,131. The eight-team College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin
    finished second with an average of 980 fans a game.

    Calvin holds the NCAA Division III single-season record average with an average
    of 4,018 fans established during the 1992-93 season.
