    MEN'S TENNIS

    Calvin came up with a solid performance on the first day of competition at the
    MIAA Championships hosted by Kalamazoo College Thursday.

    In singles play, four Calvin individuals advanced to third place matches
    scheduled for Friday afternoon. Scheduled to compete at in third place matches
    for Calvin are: freshman Kevin VanHaitsma (Unity Christian) at number-one
    single; junior Tom Zeilstra (Hinsdale, IL) at number-two singles; junior Jon
    Meyer (Orange, CA) at number-three singles and junior Nate Kraai (Grand Rapids
    Christian) at number-five singles.

    Calvin's number-one doubles team of VanHaitsma and Zeilstra and its
    number-three doubles team of Kraai and junior Dave Bartels (Kalamazoo Christian)
    will also play in the third place match Friday.

    WOMEN'S TENNIS

    Calvin put together a fourth place total of eight points on the first day of
    competition at the MIAA Championships, three points behind Kalamazoo and three
    points ahead of Hope. St. Mary's leads the standings with 14 points with
    Albion second with 11.5 points.

    Junior Sally Skodinski (South Bend, IN) highlighted the day for Calvin,
    advancing to the championships finals at number-one singles. Skodinski will
    meet Kalamazoo's Meaghan Clark in Friday's championship final.

    Calvin's number-one doubles team of Skodinski and freshman Eric Baic
    (Traverse City) and its number-two doubles team of freshmen Laura Mans (Holland
    Christian) and Rachel Pater (South Christian) also picked up victories on
    Thursday.
