    MEN’S BASKETBALL

The three host schools held serve in the first round of the MIAA Tournament
Wednesday night as Albion, Hope and Kalamazoo recorded first round wins at home.
     Fourth-seeded Albion topped fifth-seeded Adrian 76-57 at Albion’s Kresge
Gymnasium; third-seeded Kalamazoo defeated sixth-seeded Olivet 75-67 at
Kalamazoo’s Anderson Athletic Center while second-seeded Hope took out
seventh-seeded Alma 86-73 at the Holland Civic Center.

Hope (18-8) will now face Kalamazoo (17-9) at 6:00 pm in the first MIAA
Tournament semifinal game Friday night at the Calvin Fieldhouse while Albion
(17-8) will face Calvin (19-6) in Friday’s second semifinal contest which will
begin 20 minutes after the completion of the first semifinal game.

Hope will be making its 11th straight appearance in the MIAA Tournament
semifinals while Kalamazoo will be making its first MIAA Tournament semifinal
appearance since 1996. Albion will bring a four-game win streak into Friday
night’s game and will be making its 10th MIAA Tournament semifinal appearance
in the last 11 years. Calvin will bring a two-game win streak into its game
with Albion and is also making its 11th straight appearance in the MIAA
Tournament semifinals. Over the last three years, Calvin has posted a 37-2
record at home with Albion handing Calvin its only two home defeats during that
span, defeating the Knights 77-69 a year ago and 65-64 this past February 9 that
    spoiled Calvin’s homecoming.

Friday night’s semifinal winners will meet in the MIAA Tournament
Championship game Saturday night at 7:30 pm with the winner receiving the
MIAA’s automatic bid to next week’s NCAA III Tournament. Calvin has won
five out of a possible 10 MIAA Tournament titles including the last two while
