GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Calvin College sophomore Jennifer Plakmeyer has been
named to the All-MIAA second team in women's basketball.
A native of Grant and a graduate of Calvin Christian High School,
Plakmeyer led Calvin in scoring and assists this year as she averaged
12.7 points and 3.2 assists-per-game. Plakmeyer also connected on 70
percent of her free throw attempts and 36.2 percent (42-of-116) of her
attempts from three-point range.
In conference play, Plakmeyer finished seventh in the MIAA scoring race
with an average of 12.0 points a game. She also finished fourth in
three-point percentage (.382) and tied for fourth in assists-per-game
average (2.9). A 5-7 shooting guard, Plakmeyer received MIAA Player of
the Week honors once this year after scoring a career-high 27 points in
a 58-54 loss to Kalamazoo and following with a 19-point effort in an
80-45 win over St. Mary's.
Junior Kendra Toonstra and sophomore Tricia Dyk also received honorable
mention recognition from the MIAA coaches. Toonstra is from Grandville
and a graduate of Calvin Christian High School. A 5-11 forward,
Toonstra averaged 6.1 points and 4.7 rebounds a game. In a 72-56 win
over Olivet in the first round of the MIAA Tournament, Toonstra came up
with a season-high 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Dyk is from Grand
Haven and is a graduate of Western Michigan Christian High School. A 5-6
point guard Dyk averaged 7.4 points, 3.4 steals and 3.1 rebounds a game.
Over the course of the year, Dyk collected 89 steals, finishing two
short of matching the Calvin single-season record of 91 established by
Jodi Toonstra during the 1998-99 season. In conference play, Dyk led
the MIAA in steals with 51 for an average of 3.6 steals-per-game. Dyk's
steal-per-game average in conference play was the third highest
single-season average in MIAA history. Dyk finished her sophomore
campaign with a flourish, scoring a career-high 27 points on 13-of-21
shooting in a 73-71 overtime loss to nationally-ranked Hope in the MIAA
Tournament semifinals.
Calvin finished the year with a 13-13 overall record and finished fourth
in the MIAA regular season standings with a 7-7 conference mark. Calvin
then advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals for the ninth
consecutive year.
