WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
DUBUQUE, IA - Calvin snapped a three-game losing skid and advanced to
the second round of the winner's bracket of the Clarke College Holiday
Tournament with a 57-51 victory over Wisconsin-Platteville Wednesday
afternoon.
The win was Calvin's first since December 1 and also evened its record
at 4-4. Calvin led 27-21 at halftime and held off the Pioneers (4-5)
down the stretch to secure the win.
Sophomore Jennifer Plakmeyer (Calvin Christian) paced the Calvin attack
with 12 points while freshman Kim Wolthuis (South Christian) came off
the bench to provide a career-high 11 points and five rebounds.
Freshman Pam Grimes (South Christian) also had a big game off the bench
with eight points including a pair of three-point baskets.
Wisconsin-Platteville was led in scoring by Crystal Stietz who came up
with a game-high 22 points.
The game was on the boards however as the Knights outrebounded the
Pioneers 49-35 including 18-8 on the offensive glass. Junior Kendra
Toonstra (Calvin Christian) led the Calvin rebounding attack with a
career-high 10 rebounds along with six points while sophomore Emily
Beard (Southfield Christian) chipped in with eight points and eight
rebounds.
Calvin will face Concordia University of Nebraska in a winner's bracket
semifinal contest Friday at 6:00 pm (EST).
